Clearly because the Electrode equivalent in Gen V is in fact a mushroom, therefore pokeballs look like mushrooms because trainers would have to be really silly to go try to pick them up otherwise, therefore Electrode is a mushroom.

...I understand wanting to make a romhack harder than the original, but isn't a full team of level 12 starters and a level 14 elemental monkey with acrobatics, in a triple battle, keeping the original game's "your starter is pretty much useless here" bit for the first gym a bit much?

You'd think they'd just make the enemy's AI a bit more intelligent and up the abilities/moves/items of their Pokemon.

You would, but I'm pretty sure they've all just got what they'd learn naturally...except that the monkey's learnset has been editted so they get a 110 power flying move and magical leaf/water pulse/flame burst.

And what's really great is that the wild pokemon you can fight at that point still max out at level 8 or so.
