    I've been on a forum where the default editor ate newlines and whitespace. Of course the forum is coding related and the default editor is the only choice you had if your browser was chrome or a chrome derivative.

    if the forum is coding related, they should have some form of [code] tag that essentially wraps everything in a pre tag to preserve whitespace

    The forum mainly deals in Java. You're expected to know to wrap the code in a pre tag yourself or know the html for the whitespace you want.

    Mostly because it's easier to type.  Formatting is slightly more convenient since < is two keystrokes but [ is one, but the big differences are for URLs and images.  And replacing < blockquote > with [ quote ] (without spaces).

    That said, previously this editor didn't even work with HTML.  Now it works with BBcode.  This is good.
