  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
So is it appropriate to say that Rott has hopped on the banned-wagon?
  • Poot dispenser here
@Stormtroper: The derails part is what pissed the mods off the most, since one said that there tend to be a lot of thumps for incivility and off-topicness in threads that he posts in.

Generally, like with Chagen, when you gain a knack for attracting trouble to yourself, someone has gotta go, even if it's you.
  • Dude was a passive-aggressive drama-magnet with a tenuous regard at best for the topic of a discussion.

I'm really not surprised at this.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
I think Rottweiler's being unfairly characterised in that thread.  Yes, threads that he posted in did tend to derail, because his opinions were that controversial.  It's not entirely his fault.  It takes more than one person to derail a thread.

What is troubling is that he doesn't appear to have understood why he was banned.  He was banned for being a dick, which is like at the very top of the rules list.  And I do think that on occasion, he kind of can be.  Mostly he was polite, but sometimes he would be quite condescending towards those he was arguing with.

Though I still can't really defend the ban, since I can think of other tropers who tend to be even more condescending.
  • Seems folks around TV Tropes are real ban hppy these days. Thgey need to put down that hammer and relax.
  • So has Acridty been banned yet?
  • Don't think he/she posts so much in the more active forums, so the mods haven't received so many reports there. They can only regulate what they know about, after all. You see something, feel free to hit the holler.

    passive-aggressive?

only whiny pieces of shit with confrontational issues get all angry about people being "passive aggressive". Seriously, there is nothing wrong with it at all.

    No offense.
  • Hold on - isn't 'whiny pieces of shit with confrontational issues' a perfect description of passive-aggressive types?

    Or was the tautology intentional?

    Cue-bey
All passive aggressiveness does is create an atmosphere of veiled hostility, perpetuated by whiny pieces of shit.

    EDIT: theremins

    It's intentional, but yes.

People tripping over that shit tend to annoy me because they are getting emotional/offended by something that isn't even a direct attack. It's like when swordfags bitch around about people using long-ranged rifles in wars to be "dishonorable" and "cowardly" for not being direct towards their enemy.
  • On a battlefield, though, the purpose is to kill the other guy as quickly and efficiently as possible. That's not really the objective on internet forums, outside of a few unique and specialised cases.
  • That is possibly the worst metaphor I have ever heard for online conversations.

I guess that's why they call it "forum warrior".

The more obscure the rules are, the easier it is to eliminate the people you don't like. It's simple.

Rigid rules don't really help towards a goal of fostering a community that people enjoy and contribute to.

    'spose you're both right.

^^ Chagen and tnu can come up with worse. Your argument is invalid.
  • That actually made melaugh Vorpy.
  • I don't like this.

Rott may have strange opinions; but he still was a good debater and a intelligent man. I hate how nerds try to shut down other opinions and make everyone hold hands. That's not interesting.

What Chagen said it's no different then Social Conservativism. Actually Fahrenheit 451 comes to mind.

  • Because you never know what you might see.
Except that's not why he was banned.  He was banned for a reason.  I wish he hadn't been, I think he's been unfairly maligned, but he was breaking the rules, and he's not going to learn his lesson if people are just like "Rott was just too edgy and controversial for tropers to handle".  We're not trying to shut down other opinions and make everyone hold hands, we just want people to be polite to one another.  I don't think that's too much to ask.
  • Then would I be allowed to make an eventual return because I did nothing that warrented a G-Ban.
  • Nothing except act like a complete cunt and viciously attack anyone who had the gall to ask you to quit it.

Because you never know what you might see.
Dude, not to put too fine a point on it, but you were warned repeatedly, and you got permabanned.  Completely different set of circumstances.

    Erm, ninja'd.
  • I recall no warning the only thing I got was attacks on my spelling.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
And confused requests that you rephrase your posts because they couldn't understand you, and complaints about how you couldn't be bothered to show other posters the basic courtesy of making your posts understandable, and mod requests that you start spelling properly or leave, almost all of which you reacted to as though they were attacks.
  • That's because they may as well have been i'm sick of being attacked for that issue I got enough of that over the years I'm sick of being bullied for it I just want the subject to be left aloen.

That said, a good grasp of the English language is necessary for effective communication in a predominantly English-speaking forum. You simply lack the skills necessary to contribute, and that is why it keeps being such an issue.
  • God I miss it so much I want to head back so badly it's killing me man! I can't tkae it I can't deal with it! I've gort no place to go.
  • But it's not going to get left alone as long as people are paying attention to you, because it actively harms your ability to communicate. So fix it, or shut up.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
If you want to be left alone, why attempt to participate in discussions or talk about your anxieties?  You can't have it both ways.

Nobody was bullying you, you were being rude and stubborn, and people were calling you out on it.
  • I'm sorry for being rude. I made an attempt to ask politely at first but then gathered that they were just ignoring that. When I say left alone I mean to have that subject not be touched is that too much to ask?
