^^In general, just a shorter-format anime that runs for like three-six episodes.
In this case, it's a series of extra random episodes they made after the series ended that didn't really have anything to do with the show.
^^^Original video animation. It's mostly used as an excuse for "too hot for television" sort of deals.
They're also usually direct-to-DVD or some other format.
I remember hearing about those, but I didn't want to believe they were that bad. Not that I enjoyed Higurashi when I watched it (still haven't seen Kai, though, and I feel like I'd be better off playing one of the VNs or reading the manga or something).
Higurashi VNs>Higurashi Manga>>>>>Higurashi Anime
Though I never actually finished the VNs or manga >.>
They're always direct-to-DVD or some other format, since that's what the term means.
More like... in general, anime that is originally released on video (VHS,DVD,BD, whatever) as opposed to TV or theaters or the internet.
Fufufu...
Though I am a little bit serious. Higurashi doesn't seem like it'd appeal to me very much, based on what I've heard about it (and the few clips of it I saw), but I can always appreciate gratuitous fanservice, even if only for a laugh.

So it's like the anime version of the American Pie sequels? Fair enough.
@Everest: I don't want to be that guy who's always shoving the stuff he likes into other people's faces, but the VNs are infinitely better than the anime.
If you have the PS2 patch, anyway. Unless you want to look at
the whole time.
WAT
Nah, I don't mind. Our taste in stuff doesn't really intersect at all from what I've gathered. I can respect that.
Incidentally, the only anime I've ever watched is Cowboy Bebop, and I don't really plan on watching any more. I've got to get around to watching Breaking Bad and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
They're like half-finished sculptures. I want to take a sculpting tool to those hands, they look like the diseased spawn of the Penguin from Batman Returns and -insert generic anime character here-
I just want everyone to be aware that this is a line that happened.
yeah, feeding someone an octopus wiener (as in, a wiener shaped like an octopus) is pretty common
I thought it was octopus meat shaped into a sausage.
I know it's a thing, it just amused me out of context because I'm apparently six.
Anyway, I'm watching the third Kira now for screencaps. It's... not terrible? I mean it's not great or anything, and it's entire point is to be shipping bait, but it's not overflowing with insulting and horrible fanservice like the first one was.
The plot is basically that Rena and Mion and Shion all decide to act on their feelings for Keiichi at basically the same time while Rika and Satoko just sort of watch and laugh and stoke the fires. It's nothing special, but after the abomination that was the first one it's surprisingly watchable.
