I'll probably dual boot Windows/Linux, and I want to be able to game but I don't necessarily need to play all the latest at the highest settings or anything like that.
I've been reading about eleventy billion guides and things and I don't feel like I have any shortage of suggestions on what stuff to buy, but I'm much more worried about the actual process of putting it together.
I've grown to like this laptop, hasn't failed me... too often.
Its battery no longer charges and the recharger it came with wore out, so I had to fix it up with lots of tape and tinfoil. Had to get another recharger after that one got soaked, I got an "universal" recharger that doesn't include a compatible plug for this laptop, so more tape and tinfoil. The connection is delicate enough that I can't carry it around, but when I could it was nice to be able to have it anywhere around the house.
Also for the longest time due to habit I used to be better at Touhou when lying in bed with the laptop rather han sitting as if using a desktop, though I think that effect is gone now.
You know, I feel like I almost got conned.
Mind you, I'm not saying I almost got conned, merely that I feel like it. Unless I'm sure I didn't misunderstand anything, and I've let details slip past my attention too often to be sure of that, I won't say I was. Still, I'm sort of a bit distraught.
So it was like this. I got a phone call from the guys the bank I keep money in hires to manage its clients' cash. They tell me they've got some fine offer for me, and the catch is just that I will have to walk up to them and sign in in person. So I go there, I meet the financial advisor guy (or how do they call themselves), and he tells me, the thing that made me interested is actually watered down by the rest of the offer, which is a lot less impressive on the average. Then he proceeds to tell me what other stuff they've got for me. This worked like a classic con: they lure me with a good offer, and after I've invested myself in it and feel bummed 'cause it doesn't exist, bombard me with the standard stuff in hope I'll feel the need to make the trip worthwhile and settle for it. I might've bought it, even, it wasn't bad, but I got so put off by that all that I left on the spot.
Facebook gets new gender choice possibilities. I've looked up the list of a whopping 56 terms, and they're mostly spelling variants of the same concept, while missing out on non-Western alternate gender concepts such as hijra or muxe. That genuinely annoys me, and it's weirding me out.
You should make a complaint.
So... This just happened on r/worldnews on Reddit.
I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a serious post before, I mean, Edward Snowden and Ron Paul in the same post. It's almost as though worldnews has started satirizing itself.
I need to think of about US$2 worth of stuff to buy on Amazon.
Yay
:<
I hope it's only a suspicion.
On strong painkillers and antibiotics. Yay.
I'll recover soon. Since being on these drugs, I've drastically improved <3
Sounds better than having stones, I guess. Anyway. Well, the best part is that you improved.
This is the best thing ever:
I've just read some hilarious news story. Some docs botched an abortion, specifically, in the way that the kid survived. Apparently they weren't as unfazed as doc Kermit. But then, the kid's gotta be one tough bastard.

3DD is a cruel mistress.
Oh, dammit. Dammit. Dammit for the third time. Trifecta. I have that tune playing in my head, the Hoff made me feel like I was back in primary school, and now I've checked what that tune's lyrics are. Is this my punishment for eye hornet? Were you/will you be (I haven't seen the year) at the Hoff's party?
^^ OH, OH GOSH, NO, GOSH NO
Encountered another butterfly that woke up to early from hibernation today, gonna fridge this one instead of feeding it because it's more likely to survive into spring that way.
It's surprisingly comfortable.
Can't say I'm surprised. Hate crowds too.
In other news, having nothing better to do I checked Cracked.com, and found out they've got a real fun recent article: Awful Stories You Shouldn't Laugh At (But Probably Will). Number three is so poetic.
I've read the article and I love #1.
Just the bizzare nature of it.
It is time.
Well, my final/biggest assignment for Company Law has been assigned, and it is massive. And I only have two to two and a half months to finish it.
But I have to finish it at least a month ahead of schedule (and do really well) so I can start on the final work that'll get me out of Company Law next year so I can take other things that'll look great on my ESSA application, which I will only actually submit once I hit postgrad because they only accept undergrad students if they're economic superstars, and isn't "Completed a three year course in two" a great start (despite it being relatively easy to do)?
In "fourteenwings has absolutely no sense of priority" things, I present Elections SA 2014!
The ANC (African National Congress): Will win, no discussions. They're not even close to deserving to and haven't been since (possibly) illegally ousting Thabo Mbeki. Also it's their fault the EFF exists.
The DA (Democratic Alliance): Why Helen Zille? Why? You had like, a credible chance at victory when you presented yourself as the presidential candidate! Why did you decide Ramphele was a good idea? Had you not met her and realized she was a backstabbing word-go-backer-on (One who would go back on her word after she'd told it to every media source that had cameras at the venue and some that didn't?)? Just... if I can stand the huge crowd I'll vote for you Zille, but it will not count for anything as nobody trusts your decision making capability now.
The EFF (Economic Freedom Front): Why are we even talking about Julius Malema? Why give him a media platform? It's time to move on, there's no way he can win because the only people who support him lack any semblance of self-preservation ("Re-enacting Zimbabwe and re-drawing racial lines is a good thing!").
Everyone else: I don't even understand why you think that your party is housing the first non-ANC president? (But maybe one day South African Communist Party...)
Hey, tell us how the acronyms unfold. And some info on the agendas. I've read a newspaper article on it once, but you can guess that's hardly extensive knowledge.
Needs more colours.
^But I don't have your skill!
The ANC doesn't need to make promises since they'll win but they have, all of which are lies (Stuff like they'll fight corruption despite at the moment trying to stop the District Attorney's office from releasing reports that'll expose corruption directly linked with Jacob Zuma and basically cheering the current Auditor General out of office*, fighting for women's rights despite their candidate being Jacob Zuma and providing more funding for education despite them making school districts worse every single year under [do I even need to say his name anymore?]).
*Luckily the new one seems out for even more blood.
The DA has also promised the basics (except they mean it), but their more complicated policies are lifted straight from Thabo Mbeki's reign with a few adjustments and I personally take that as Helen Zille trying to continue from where he left off (especially with the wealth redistribution and social welfare programs) since they left the ANC at around the same time.
The EFF has no idea what reality is, so they've promised things like free tertiary education (Because the already insanely generous subsidies aren't enough) and the stuff I've already mentioned.
Also: The formation of the EFF (and the ousting of Malema from the ANC in general) made the ANC stop being funny, so now it's just sad (Because Malema was just kind of dumb and provided comic relief to Zuma's "laugh your questions off until the interview is over or provide really weird answers" evil).
What makes the ANC so certain to win?
They are the party linked to the end of the apartheid (They were in the forefront of the struggle against it, Mandela was their first president, etc). It was a fine party until somehow Thabo Mbeki was ousted practically mid-second term because the middle-management of the party (which was made up of mostly average joes who were useful because they could shout the loudest during the struggle and honestly did not deserve a place in politics at all) got greedy.
And 65-80% of the voters basically have the apartheid fresh on their minds because it was less than 19 years ago when the ANC came into power.
So they vote ANC for short-term viceral reasons?
Pretty much.
You all should do like I do and vote for long-term visceral reasons.
