I'm waiting till Milos gives us a more elaborate description, I wonder if monarchists over there are the same kind of people as here. The situation differs, for one.

So, the nerd who jacks off to kings and anything else that combines power and fanciness, as well as being a massive megalomaniac (he dreams of being a fucking Freemason) saw that angry comment I made on his "we should've stuck to monarchy" Facebook post (which is the reason why I posted this on IJBM in the first place), took the wussy way out and deleted it. Expectable. The guy's been acting very passive-aggressive towards me for already some time, but I have no idea why. Maybe it's about politics.

Well, to try to explain Serbian monarchists - Serbia (and later Yugoslavia) was a monarchy until 1941, when the Nazis attacked Yugoslavia. The king and his ministers fled to London, robbing all reserves from the state treasury and using it to support a luxurious lifestyle in exile. Yugoslavia simultaneously had two resistance movements - the right-wing Chetniks, and the left-wing Partisans. The partisans managed to crush the Chetniks and emerge as the sole resistance movement in 1944, and eventually liberated the whole country. The monarchy was abolished through a referendum, the royal family was banned from entering the country ever again, and most of the ministers were declared traitors and sentenced to death in absentia.

After the overthrow of Milošević in 2000 and the end of socialism in Serbia, the royal family (which closely cooperated with the opposition) was allowed to return to the country. Many Serbian nationalists see the restoration of monarchy as something that ought to finally erase the "stains of communism", but most major political parties who used to voice their support of the monarchy gave up on it by now and that the restoration doesn't have much potential of actually happening. It helps that the Crown Prince is a drooling borderline retard who can barely speak Serbian after more than twelve years of living in the country. He actually attempted to stage a coup against Milošević in 1991, sponsored by the US, and illegally entered the country with legions of Serbian nationalists gathering to support him. He attempted to start an uprising at the royal countryside estate, organizing a party with lots of free food and beverages for his supporters to indulge in, but completely blew it after he got drunk and literally pissed his pants, which made him the laughing stock of the whole nation and he quickly escaped back to London.

You know, for all that "let's kill shit out of each other" business you guys in Balkans seem to excel at, you at least quite can't say your politics are boring.

...in other news, you at least have a dynasty to return to. Your monarchists are thus somewhat legitimate, which can't be really said around here, where it's an even crazier off-shoot of already crazy right-wing fringes.

  • Do Monarchist over there use the "democracy is not perfect, and monarchy is not COMPLETELY bad therefore monarchy is automatically better" argument, or is that just Anglo reactionaries?

  • >Get sick in morning

    >Have to miss class

    Damn it.

  • So apparently I have a slight infection in my nose, and it is clogged to high heaven.

And they found out by sticking probes in my nose down to my throat.

  • Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto!

    Dead bird at my doorstep.

I scooped him up and placed him in the grass with a flower.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Just got back from a two week bender. Now I have to get used to being sober. Ugh.

I don't even know why you'd be a monarchist when there's vastly superior autocratic alternatives to choose.

  • a little muffled

Monarchy and autocracy are hardly incompatible.

  • You can change. You can.

I don't think he's saying that they are incompatible, just that Autocracy is better

Considering changing my sleep schedule to 4 a.m. wakeup and work time pre-class, and then powernapping for the remaining 2-3 hour gap in the afternoon. Dunno if it'll fix my bad habits or what, but I figure it's worth a try, and it'll almost certainly work better than what I'm doing as it is.

Most of them aren't opposed to democracy, just want to have a figurehead royal like in some other European countries. You can have monarchy and democracy at the same time (although it raises some theoretical implications about sovereignity and equality that are quite incompatible with democratic ideals), but I don't get what is the point if they don't really do anything and are nothing but a simple moneysink. The Brits at least have the argument of tradition, but it doesn't work over here since we haven't had it for over 70 years and even the very old people only vaguely remember it.

I've never heard a good argument coming from them, I guess that they simply like royalty. Some of them keep saying that monarchy "helps create a sense of unity", but I know that I'm not suddenly going to get any more patriotic by knowing that I'm (only in theory, but still) ruled by a total moron whose sole job is to strut around in fancy clothes with his family and eat tax money, while the rest of the country is starving.

Well, almost. A monarchy is a type of autocracy (or rather can be), what I'm saying is that if you're going to go for autocracy, there are far better alternatives to monarchy.

Well, monarchy has bling, and this dude is all about bling.

  • "you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

If you're curious about monarchists here, the belief seems to be that a hereditary autocrat is going to be prepared from birth to rule, and he'll care about the state of affairs better than a democratic official because it'd be his personal possession, or some other shit like that. Because, obviously, all of history points to that. Well, I said it's a crazy fringe of the crazy fringe.

    What is it now?

    I've considered something like that.

Right now it's 12 (if I'm lucky) to 8 (or earlier, if I was too tired to finish some homework I need to do at 12 or later, like today).

On the plus side, this day's started out okay. I feel funny from sleep dep, but my Spanish quiz went well, and I just have one more class where I suspect we won't do much. On the other hand, I have to write a 5-page paper for tomorrow after my nap and lunch and shopping or whatever other stuff I have to do.

  • In four committees noa. Go for six board positions to break previous semesters record? Y/N

    No, that's dictatorship. >:(

  • Yes, amass all the power. All of it.

    WATT YOU SAY !!

  • But you never had any to begin with.

    No, not watt, volt-ampere.

A monarchy in the UK is cheaper than having a President of the Republic of Britannia. Also the Queen is generally seen as being above party politics.

But its really complicated why we want to keep the Queen and her family around.

  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human

Because she's actually surprisingly cool, savvy, and awesome?

  • Watching Extra Credits. Funny how I take interest in some of their videos and yet almost get bored by others. But that's normal.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

That's my experience, too. I like it best when they talk about the nitty gritty of game design -- it's what they're best at, and what they provide that other popular gaming internet shows don't do.

  • Okay, I admit, Wide-Angle Punching made me chuckle a bit.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

Finally getting around to writing a paper about Crime and Punishment for one of my classes, but I'm actually really excited to do it now, and that alone should be enough to push me through the night. I'm usually impeded by a loss for words, but I think that if I'm impeded by anything this time, it's the need to find the exact words to properly convey my sentiments. Feels good, even though the sleep dep won't.

Not posting this in the Music Dump thread because I mostly find this entertaining, rather than a potential discussion point (I dunno, maybe?), but this is great.
