So Nintendo finally released the NES Legend of Zelda for regular purchase on the 3DS Virtual Console, so my Ambassador Program copy gets an update giving it save states!
Maybe finally I'll be able to finish the damn thing.
Downloaded Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Return yesterday; finished it today.
Nice little game.
Bugs:
IT ATE MY HEART
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, DRAGON
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
Solution: Gear up and take it back.
but the only sword is crappy
like, even goblins have better swords
(also i got dragons dogma for my birthday. five days early but eh)
Better swords are easy to get.
Warrior, I take it?
Maybe Mega Man Revolution isn't completed yet? Or just really buggy...
warrior. and i found a better iron sword and a better round shield, yeah.
so, i had to escort a hydra head to a duke somewhere
i was like, okay, this shouldn't be that hard
there were some goblins, some harpies, and some wolves, but nothing i couldn't handle.
and then
rocks fell
and everyone died
what the hell
I prefer Strider myself.
The rock fall trap...that's the only one I've encountered, but if you're under it when it triggers...yeah
My main pawn is a Strider. But no, I just prefer the added security of being able to take a tough hit.
Yeah, but Striders climb better, and climbing is the funnest part of the game, so even though Striders die easier, I find them funner to play as.
I just find it really annoying to die all the time and have to restart. not fun in the least.
Yeah...well, that kinda happens anyway.
From now on, whenever someone claims Dark Souls is hard, I will have them play Dragon's Dogma for a bit.
How is Dark Souls compared to Demon's Souls? I'm very, very tempted to buy it now.
What's it cost at this point?
Much less constrained (it has an open world, and if you can see something, you can go there) and better balanced. And with significantly less unforeseeable bullshit. And I think it's longer. Basically, much more refined overall.
And if you're a fan of hidden stories, i.e. stories that are really deep but most people don't even notice they're there, it has probably the best one in the medium (seriously, I think they might have had a few people who just did worldbuilding and nothing else).
Amazon has it for a bit under $30 new.
hrm. I owe it to myself to get this, but I'm just so low on funds.
Also, I've never actively played the online portions of the Souls series. Is it possible to play with a specific individual in these games?
I don't actually know; I mostly play offline, myself.
... But Dragon's Dogma is easier than Dark Souls. Much, much easier. :V
No, you can't play with a specific individual. There are summon signs that let you co-op, but they're all bound to a specific player, and I'm not sure you can see all of them. Otherwise, it's getting invaded by random players. (Cracked Red Eye Orb users, Darkmoons (who attack sinners only), Darkwraiths (who invade to steal Humanity), Forest Hunters (who only invade if you wander into a specific area), Gravelords (not the player themselves), and Path of the Dragon (Only if you have dragon scales).)
I'm pretty sure I have now. :V Considering how I've been in and around Gran Soren for a while now and they're throwing me against giants and stupid skeletons and lizard monsters that I have to cut the tails off.
Well...Dark Souls is significantly easier than that. I mean, you can run into a self-healing powered-up chimera as a random encounter, for crying out loud.
As opposed to running into knights in one of the first zones in the game with no indication that you shouldn't fight them except that they look menacing. Or fighting a giant Taurus Demon on a narrow walkway it can knock you off of in one hit. :V
Black Knights are easy to kill if you know Fireball. :P
The Titanite Demon, on the other hand, has no excuse.
I did not even bother to try to kill that.
I did! By plinking it with about 80 arrows.
If something is on the cover, I usually expect to encounter it either fairly often or only as a storyline-mandated enemy, actually. Seeing as how it was just standing there, it was not a storyline-mandated boss, so I figured that it would be fair game.
But haha no.
Now, compare that to a game which explicitly tells you that there's nothing wrong with running from an enemy if you feel you can't handle it before doing stupid things like throwing enemies you feel you can't handle at you.
^ Hey, it's the metal pig all over again!
