Ah, that's a better term for it. Gameworld design.
That works.
Ah! I figured out the other thing I was missing. Agency.
I think it covers all the bases, really.
So excited~
Just started the Steins; Gate visual novel.
I love what an oblivious and unrepentant dick Kyouma is.
Huh. Got a Playstation Vita for a present even though I wasn't planning to get one anytime soon. Oh well, I'm not complaining.
Also, signed up for the Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta, doing hard mode and signed up for the Berserker Risk. Let's fucking do this!
God, Silent Hill 3. Dat Hospital Level.
1000 Amps. Played through the majority of this already, and I absolutely love it.
Cue getting a team of Thief, Berserker, Berserker, Berserker. :P
Doing it myself, Hard/Berserker Risk, since I pulled it off last year. Mystic Knight + Ninja is a thing to behold.
Shameless self promotion!
It seems moviebob is still unwilling to criticise publishers even though his argument heads there implicitly. That said, this episode of the Game Overthinker has some excellent points, especially concerning the established gamer reaction to the Wii.
And here's a fun inversion in article format. Needless to say, I disagree with this one entirely. The concept of a game "obsoleting" another implies that games ought not to be enjoyed as art; The Lord of the Rings, after all, didn't obsolete Star Wars, despite their many thematic similarities. Furthermore, it's the "more of the same" attitude that's got gaming by the balls and blocking progression. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm all for new experiences except in the case of remakes in similar format. Perhaps Ocarina of Time was the best Zelda game ever; perhaps not. But it was definitely a milestone in terms of transitional gaming from 2D to 3D, and doubtless has a special place in the memories of many for that reason. Trying to reclaim that is silly, because there will never be such a breakthrough in gaming again. 2D to 3D was the big one, and to my memory, it was a major success in terms of making the best of new technology. For those of us that were old enough to have clear memories of that time, I don't think there'll be anything to match that period of '96 to '99 insofar as games are concerned.
Hey guys look what I found.
^All that tells me is that IWBTG has a large following there.
I'm going to try playing some of them and report back.
I wanna be the revolution is weird, like some strange mix between danmaku, rhythm game and IWBTG. Now I'll play I wanna be the Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, which I downloaded just because of that name
Will post my thoughts when I've played it.
I saw a let's play of a particularly well-made one on Nico Nico Douga, I'll see if I can find it.
So, I played up until where you get your first permanent pawn.
I've heard a lot of people compare Dragon's Dogma to Dark Souls, which is very odd, because while they both share the traits of being difficult Japanese action fantasy RPGs, combat in the two is extremely different. In Dark Souls, combat is slow and deliberate; you're always waiting for the proper moment to put down your shield and strike. Dragon's Dogma, on the other hand, is very fast-paced.
Anyway, the combat is very fun, and the large enemies are of course the highlight of it. I have to say, I've never seen a videogame monster that looks quite as good as the Chimera in the starting flashback thing. Not just in terms of graphical fidelity, but animation as well. I really felt that the lion, the snake and the goat were thinking independently, and severing the snake so I could climb up onto the lion's back and kill the goat, then finally finish the beast off while clinging onto its mane made me feel an organic progress to the fight unlike any I've seen in other games.
The game has some flaws that have already become apparent (looking at you, inventory system) but it has the most exciting combat I've played since The World Ends With You (which was probably a bit too exciting), so it's definitely worth it.
Also, the main menu music is freaking awesome.
which ones
to google
Anyway, Protocol 10 just started, so I assume I'm getting close-ish to the end.
^You have about an hour or two of gameplay left.
I finished AC a few days ago, and there's NO way they'll let the ending stand.
Well, Hamill did decide to stop doing the role
They can easily just go along with it. There're a lot of Batvillains who can do what he does. Not like you aren't right, but I digress.
