  • He might be doing the same thing I did, which was thinking "I'll play what people say is the weakest story first, and if I think that's at least okay I'll probably LOVE the other ones." That's why I chose Consular as my first Pub character.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Why?

Dammit, I just created the character T_T

  • If you look upthread, you'll see that Nova's opinion is that the story is consistently shitty. For what it's worth, when I mentioned Inquisitors and their story not being so good in guildchat, three or four people said that they disagreed and liked playing through it, so it might be a YMMV thing.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Oh.

Well, in that case, I guess I'll start as an Agent. Hadn't actually played any yet.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

Well, I liked playing through the Consular's storyline. That doesn't mean that it wasn't weak and poorly done.

Okay. The Imperial Agent is what everybody says is the BEST story in the game on either side, so you shouldn't be disappointed.

As somebody whose Imp main is a Bounty Hunter, I thought it was pretty good but not awesome until I got to the end. I loved the Light Side ending I chose, and found it really satisfying.

My opinion is that the Consular story is underrated, although I can understand why it doesn't get much love when I compare it to the BH story I've completed and the Smuggler and Warrior stories I'm currently playing through. They're all significantly better.

    Server connection keeps dying T_T

The Consular's story is not all that bad, but it isn't precisely good, either.

The concept of the Consular is someone who is a diplomat and a scholar; someone who spends more of their time exploring old ruins and finding out ancient secrets than getting into combat.

However, much of the Consular's story involves fighting as much as the Knight does, where the Knight is expressly a combat-focused character.

The storyline with the Esh-Ka, and the initial storyline on Tython and Coruscant with the Holocrons, is perhaps the closest the Consular actually gets with this initial concept. After that, it is 'fight your way through a hundred people so you can talk to someone'. Never 'try and talk your way through a mission', or 'search out an ancient secret to give you an edge' until you get to the Esh-Ka.

The Esh-Ka mission was the highlight of the storyline, along with the Tython/Coruscant section.

    lag

    so much lag

why would you only have three pve servers

  • I hadn't thought of it that way before. Still, when I played KOTOR and was choosing between Guardian, Sentinel and Consular in that game for my character, I think the way it was explained to me at the time was "All three are Jedi and they all work toward the same goal, but they have different specialties and different colored lightsabers." Given that no matter which of the three you pick, you end up doing a ton of fighting in KOTOR's story, I didn't feel strange fighting a lot of people in SWTOR as a Consular.

(I wasn't particularly happy with the difference between Force Wave in that game and this one, though, because in KOTOR when I used Force Wave it was devastating. In this game it does a lot less damage and knocks enemies back.)

There used to be a lot more, but the population on all of them was pretty low.

Well... read this, and tell me that that sounds like the Consular you played on Balmorra.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Damn.

The game is only about halfway playable right now. Just too much load.

You have turned graphics right down, yes?

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    So...I have my companion :D

But...Affection gain doesn't seem to be working T_T

  • I'm a damn twisted person

It shows up at the end of missions all at once I think. Only immediate thing is with gifts.

    You're an Agent, right?

Good luck getting affection from Kaliyo, ever, if you're not playing Dark Side.

^ No. At least, it used to show up as soon as you said something that affected it. At the end of the conversation it would be added properly.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Oh, okay. Good to know.

Also, after searching how TOR romance works, I was saddened to learn that my female Agent won't be able to romance Kaliyo T_T

I wound up deciding to actually role-play the character even though that's mechanically discouraged. So far, I'm very close to neutral.

Well... Kaliyo is kind of a terrible person anyway.

They're going to introduce Neutral gear, at least.

But yeah, no, over time, you'll find yourself swinging one way or the other. You probably won't end up at Light V or Dark V- only my Consular has managed that- but even roleplaying, you'll end up around Light III if you're playing your character as a good person, Dark III if a bad person.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Mine isn't really either. She's kind of a bitch and very mission-focused, but distinctly not evil.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

The... The Agent's story is focused as such that the mission will draw you to one or the other. Just trust me on this one; neutral Agents are very rare, and the game will make you feel like the biggest asshole to ever draw breath if you play one.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

It is easy to get Kailyo affection points while not picking explicitly darkside. Just pick dialog choices that insult the person you are talking to or start a fight.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

I would count that as Dark-side play, personally, the same way I would classify diplomatic choices as Light-side play.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

Finished the prologue stuff. What skill should I pick for Kaliyo?

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    Honestly?

Slicing. Unless you have three crew skills, it's only really worth getting Slicing, unless you're willing to fork over tens of millions of credits in materials to level Synthweaving/Cybertech/Biochem/whatever to 400.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Sounds good.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    But wait!

You might want to go Treasure Hunting/Diplomacy/Underworld Trading, as you can get Companion Gifts for your Companions, which will be a massive boon to their Affection for you.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Went with Slicing >.>

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

You can get rid of the crew skill you have and learn a new one at any time. You just have to open the crew skill page, unlearn it (the little cross near the number of ranks you have in it), and go to a teacher of the new skill.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    Yeah.

    But having money is nice.
