Samurott has been bulky as all fuck so far. Unfezant is at least somewhat bulky, if I decide to go for Unfezant, although she lacks badly in the Special Defence department. I have a Boldore with Sturdy sitting in my box, waiting for me to decide if I want to use it.
I have stated before that it's a terrible idea to go with a purely defence-oriented team, the same as it is a terrible idea to go with a purely offense-oriented team. I am not going to go in the game without a decent offensive Pokemon, and I am not going to go into the game without a decent defensive Pokemon.
And it has gone very well for me so far. The only Pokemon that have died on me (that I can remember, and weren't just things I caught and were pulled out by Roar, etc, on the way back to the Pokemon Centre) were Purrloin, Magmar, and Galvantula, which died to... can't remember what Purrloin died to, but Galvantula died to a Boldore (I forget what the evolution is called, it was the second evolution) in Mistralton Cave and Magmar died to a Tangela somehow.
So you're telling me to bulk up, essentially.
Oh see, I thought you were talking about a normal playthrough earlier.
Another reason I hate nuzlockes, you have to do a lot of unnecessary grinding just so your Pokemon won't die on you.
I have only ever been encouraging you to get a bulky Pokemon.
Especially in B2W2, because the storyline itself brings you up against two legendary Pokemon, Cobalion and Virizion, you can catch before you even get up to the seventh Gym, and a bulky Pokemon (I used Samurott) can tank their hits, allowing you more time to try and catch them.
A purely offensive-oriented team is a bad idea, because many Gym Leaders, Elite Four members, and Champions, have very strong Pokemon that will annihilate your team, unless you like to abuse Revives and level grinding.
A purely defensive-oriented team is a bad idea, because it will take you fifty times as long to take down any given Pokemon, and critical hits can and will wreck your shit.
A team with mixed offensive and defensive Pokemon can take on basically any given situation and survive. Especially if backed up with a support Pokemon.
It's like you're told way back at the start of the first couple of generations; if you overspecialize, you're going to find yourself matched up with someone who will take advantage of your weakness, and it's going to tear you to shreds. If you catch a lot of Pokemon and take advantage of typing differing attack and defensive Pokemon, you're going to be able to survive many more situations.
I have not done a normal playthrough since I last played Platinum, which was... a year ago now? More?
I will do a normal playthrough of B2 after I finish this Nuzlocke run though.
Also, re Galvantula:
See, thing is, Galvantula is much better than Zebstrika. I didn't mean to argue that it wasn't, as Thunder and move coverage is much better.
However, Galvantula has one huge disadvantage that basically drags him down: His dual Electric/Bug nature.
Electric only has one weakness, to Ground. Now, Bug does cover that- but Bug is also weak to Flying-type Pokemon, which Electric previously resisted, and Bug is also weak to Fire-types and Rock-types, which there are a lot of.
Zebstrika is not as offensively powerful, but Zebstrika also has much fewer crippling weaknesses, especially when coupled with Magnet Rise. Overall, this means that Zebstrika can be used a lot more, as few Pokemon can pick on his type weaknesses.
Of course, I was going off my memory of Black/White, where they were basically your only two Electric Pokemon, and I've never had a Tynamo. I completely spaced about other Electric-types such as Magnemite, which outclass both Galvantula and Zebstrika in so many ways.
That is a valid point.
However, I like to have all of my Pokemon capable of sweeping to some extent. Think about it: if you and your opponent are caught with only one Pokemon between you two, and your Pokemon is something like Blissey, what would you do?
I get that bulk is important, but I don't want to sacrifice offensive power for it.
Oh, and Icalasari-
You didn't happen to catch a Druddigon in Dragonspiral Tower, or an Axew in Mistralton Cave, or an Ice-type near the Cold Storage or anywhere?
If not, well, that sucks. However, I do know a decent grinding spot, if grinding is becoming overly painful.
If you go north of.. the town with Celestia Tower, Skyla's town, there's some long grass that you can cycle near. The Audino's that pop up there are Level 30-33, and give around 2,500 or more EXP with a Lucky Egg. That's where I trained my Axew in Black, and where I'm currently training my new Axew.
I would restart my game because Blissey sucks ass. :P
The Pokemon I have been encouraging you to keep are Pokemon like Serperior. Serperior probably would not make for a very good defensive Pokemon in a metagame, with a mere 95 defence in each category and only 75 HP, but for the purposes of the game, Serperior's Grass typing and his decent defences make for a wall that is better than 90% of other Pokemon.
Serperior also has 75 Attack and Special Attack, and has a movepool that includes Leaf Blade (90 Power, 100% accuracy, Physical), Coil (Raises Attack, Defence, and Accuracy one stage), Giga Drain (75 Power, 100% Accuracy, Special, restores 50% of damage done as HP), and Leech Seed. While Serperior will never match up with offense-oriented Pokemon like Lucario or Haxorus, Serperior still can deal damage when required.
And, well, I'm familiar with Serperior, so I can actually comment there. There are probably other walls, but I don't know them as well, so I never comment on them.
I see.
I was actually planning on getting the respectably bulky Haxorus on my team. But that's lategame, so it looks like I'll have to look for a good bulky Pokemon earlier.
In B2/W2, you can get an Aron as soon as you get Surf.
Aggron has a sucky sucky typing.
...By a Druddigon (fuck those things are fucking strong)
However, I do have a Cobalion which should wreck some shit
Unless Iris has some fighting moves in which case fuck me sideways
*sigh* I miss my shiny Flygon... And my Feraligatr...
Seismic Toss for an offesive attack, Soft Boilef to heal, Toxic...
The thing can be a little monster
Yes, but its 180 Defence more than makes up for that so long as you don't throw it against Fighting-types. And 110 Attack is great when paired with Iron Tail and the like.
It's really not so great on the Special side of things, but it's a great physical wall.
I prefer Eviolite Chansey myself. That thing is a BEAST!
In building a team, one also has to consider typing. Note that I'm using Lucario as my main, and Lucario shares Aggron's weaknesses.
So it doesn't look like I'm using Aggron any time soon. Sorry Aggron, your valuable 4x normal resistance will be missed.
Iris does not have Fighting-type moves, but if you don't get a Deino in Victory Road, I suggest giving up your Nuzlocke.
Yes, but Blissey is also fucking annoying, and not in a vague "I don't really like this Pokemon" way like Galvantula, but more of a "This Pokemon is fucking annoying to play with, why don't you fuck off and go bother everyone like Audino" way.
But that's half the fun of playing a Blissey! You get to feed on your opponent's tears of frustration!
No?
I mean, yeah, I see your point and I agree with it. But Lucario is not 4x weak to Ground or Fighting, and Lucario doesn't pick up an additional weakness to Grass, does pick up a weakness to Psychic, etc.
That is, Fighting's weaknesses make for a Pokemon that is weak in a different way to a Rock-type Pokemon.
You're right, though, with a Lucario you're better off going for a different Pokemon.
They're my own tears of frustration! And I don't like them!
By the way, is the Audino encounter exploit still around in B/W2?
I'd have a, by the time I face the E4, a level 55 Cobalion, Furret, Darumitan, Maractus, Cofagrigus, Scrafty, Gigalith, Samurott, and Carracosta, and a level 62 Stoutland (with Ice Fang, mind you)
And Cofagrigus has Power Split and abysmal attack stats. If I can get a Focus Sash, then switch in against Hydreigon... That thing isn't going to be hurting shit
^^ Yep.
I think they're much rarer now, though.
It's not an exploit, it's a game feature, so yeah.
Because Ghetsis has more than a Hydreigon with him? And Hydreigon uses Special moves, not Physical moves, so rather than splitting a Base 50 Attack and a Base 105 Attack, you're going to be splitting a Base 95 Special Attack with a Base 125 Special Attack, still leaving Hydreigon with a very decent Special Attack to abuse.
.
AUGH!
You guys were right, the songs here suck!
They fuckin' butchered the Team Plasma battle theme!
I told you. I TOLD YOU MAN
If all 11 (I'd have Zekrom with me first time) get wiped by Ghetsis, I'd train one of my Pokemon to level 70 or 80 before facing him again
Heck, if he wipes Team 1, then I'd train Stoutland (not using him the first time) to level 70
Because nobody fucks with the dog named after my deceased dog
Because fuck Ghetsis
Ghetsis is basically a bit harder than Cynthia was in Platinum- i.e. very hard, especially if you want to avoid casualties.
Your absolute best bet is to either hope you get a Deino and evolve it, or suffer through grinding to 60 or so, because Ghetsis can absolutely maul you otherwise.
Also, decided that Guidance Chamber or whatever is different to Mistralton Cave. Caught an Aron.
Whoever fucking put the decreasing experience as you go up in level is gah! Takes forever for a shaking spot to appear, and Audino isn't even guaranteed to appear then!
