also, if you ended up watching better shojo shows.I liked pretty much everything about Cardcaptor Sakura. >.>
Though yeah, it's not perfect. Still probably one of the better choices if you want to watch a magical girl show though.
But everyone has different opinions on what is a good plot, and someone
may find something to be, say, an Ass Pull while another doesn't.
First, do you mean "divine" (as in "find out") or "define"?
You can say that everything seems subjective, but consider the following case: You're reading a romance story set in a realistic current era. Two girls both love this one guy, and he also likes them both but has to choose between them. He's conflicted on the issue, and monologues about how he should handle refusing one's invitation to a date where the other might be present. Then suddenly, a dinosaur's foot crushes one of them, and the other two get married and live happily ever after.
Would you consider that to be bad? Well, even if you wouldn't, most people would say that the point of the story was completely betrayed and ignored by the ending, and would thus feel the story was not well-crafted--it could have been better had it resulted in a more realistic ending with him politely refusing one of the girls, or with him not saying anything and one of them finding out and breaking off, or with him choosing neither of them and remaining single, or something. But...a dino foot crushing one of the girls...just doesn't make sense.
@Noimporta > Newsflash: 4chan (Or rather /a/, in this case) is not a hivemind,
there's tons of people with tons of different opinions. The charts are
fine, they try to cover all the bases, there's tons of stuff on them
that I didn't enjoy, but acknowledge might be more akin to others'
tastes.
I know; they're more like consensus picks rather than anything else. It's just that I'm a bit tired of seeing the same series mentioned over and over again in recommendation lists.
@Juan_Carlos > why does the origin of the chart makes you disrespect it in particular?
That was my line, not his.
And okay, perhaps I misspoke. I just don't think the chart is worth that much since you can get basically the same recommendations from anyone, or even just by noting what series some general animé chat/community is talking about (and possibly subtracting current series).
Also, lol.
Thank you, Juan and Glenn, for basically answering my questions.
I tried to come up with counterarguments, but everything I came up with relied on fautly logic, fallicies, or other things. So I must accept your statments, them being more logically consisitent.
@Juan_Carlos, @AHR: That's why I sometimes try, when giving recommendations, to think of something that I think is good but hasn't already been mentioned by lots of other people.
@Chagen: Sorry if I sounded condescending, by the way. I will admit that it's not a distinction I really picked up on until not long ago, though I didn't hang out on message boards and discuss my favorite shows so I really didn't have much of a chance to run into the issue.
I got called a liar earlier when someone said 'there's no one who says "It sucked but I enjoyed it."' and I responded that I actually say this all the time.
