The reason I don't believe him is because sympathy trolling. Why in the hell didn't he mention this in the OP and only waited until people disagreed with him to mention it? It's like people mentioning the problem after people tell them to stop worrying.
I remember awhile ago there was something with his dad threatening to hit him too but that suddenly turned into a retcon for this new crazy political dad thing he has now, and I was still wondering what the fuck happened between him and his dad but he refused to reply to anyone at all or comment on that whole thing, so I said fuck it and called trollnanigans.

Of course, you have to remember that Chagen isn't exactly good at getting the point he wants across, typically getting it fettered up in argument...
I will remind you all that I have what appears to be the same problem with my parents (a little bit more extreme, but still, along the same lines), neither of them listen to me, and my father uses whatever avenue he can for control, this very excuse being one of them. It would be hypocritical for you to tell him to just deal with it and then give me support on a different thread.
I will simply ask Chagen to elaborate a little more on the situation, since it seems that there might be more to this than meets the eye, and hopefully this will stop being an argument and more about support. After all, this is a place for venting about things that bug you, doesn't this count?

Tell us specifically what your parents do to you or have done to you that is so horrible. Tells us in specifics, in a list and leave out no details, and most of all, DO NOT EXAGGERATE. We want to know. We need to know, if we want to stop condescending you.

Anyway, most of my annoyance at my parents comes from our ideological differences. Most of what we do is argue, it was only during my earlier years that they actually beat me, though my mom still goes crazy every once in a while--last time was today.
My dad still pushes his right-wing bullshit and my brother refuses to do anything useful, like get a job or go to school, despite getting a 15-year-old girl pregnant with 4 children. Not to mention I'm more terrified of him than either of my parents. Even though he lives 5 miles from us.
Looking back on it, the only things my parents do is push their beliefs on me and refuse to respect my wishes sometimes. And the intermittent arguing and the fact that my mom can scare the shit out of me (even though I prefer her to my dad).
