  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Ray looked at the book. It was a hefty tome, and it would take time to even parse it;. He reached into his pockets and pulled out his chipped up library card.

"Greetings." he said, putting the book on the table. "I should like to rent out this book if that is alright."

The librarian nodded, barely paying attention. She ran it through, writing the name of the book in the ledger.

"Please return it within twenty-eight days," she said.

Carrie set the book down, removed her camera from around her neck, and amused herself by playing tug-of-war with Bob's bone and wrestling with him.

Playing with him helped take her mind off things.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Ray nodded, and put the book in his pack, adding significant heft to it. "Alright Phillip, time to wait for the others by the place and read up."

"Vulpix?" Phillip said. Ray was no master at understanding pokemon but he understood that request.

"Oh alright, I suppose we'll stop and get you some treats first. After all you did so well at the gym."

At this stage, Jackie felt safe letting Mercer out of his pokeball, so he accompanied her while she took care of errands.

Jackie's first stop was her house, where she told her parents she was traveling with some friends. Since her dad taught her how to fight and fend for herself, he wasn't too concerned, though he made it clear that he didn't want her going anywhere near Team Rocket--no if's, and's, or but's about it. Jackie was smart enough not to tell him why she wanted to leave.

After grabbing her backpack, trainer equipment, toiletries, and dumbells, she went to the Pokemart, waving and nodding to Charles on the way (since he went first, I'm assuming he'd be done before she got there).

Once she bought two more Antidotes, an Awakening, and 3 days' worth of food and water, she went to the Pokecenter and asked where the Zigzagoon and Machop were in the recovery process.

Charles stopped Jackie before she bought stuff. "I don't think anybody thought of food or water. Maybe we should get some for the whole party?"

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
After saying his goodbyes, Greg packs some food for both himself and Littorio in his backpack and heads to the meeting point.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Ray sat a bench by the route, the book in his lap as he skimmed for mentions of the stone. "No, not right now Phillip." Ray said absent-mindedly as Phillip began playful pawing at Ray's backpack. "This is important."
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
The book had pictures, but Ray, unfortunately, did not know what the Enigma Stone looked like.

Luckily, or so it seemed, there was an entry near the middle of the book. It spoke of a stone, a crystallized soul of a lost Pokemon. These Pokemon had the ability to live as humans. They were wise, and powerful, and very deadly.

The book does not have much information on the Pokemon, though. It mentions the Red Dragon and the Blue Dragon, but nothing else.

"Hm. I'm not sure if I can pay that much; I was hoping to get a tent for me and Carrie, and it's probably a fair distance to Cerulean, so we'll need plenty of food, collectively. I think we ought to just check with the others, first; it's part of being a team."

During this conversation, Mercer looks over Charlie and Snow once before floating behind Jackie and staring up at the sky.

After a few minutes of wandering around with Bob out of boredom, Carrie noticed Ray sitting on the bench, reading a book.

"Hey!" Carrie jogged over, the Cubone easily keeping pace.

Charles frowned. "Well, I'll at least get some food for myself and Snow, and a tent as well of course. I can share mine with the remainder of the group so we all get rest"

Charles then proceeded to buy five days worth of food and water, a tent, a book on edible plants, a potion, a pokeball, and two antidotes

"Well, I'm off to the meeting spot then. See you there, Jackie!" he said before running off with Snow

"That will be 2,220 credits," the cashier replied.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Ray looked up from the book. "Oh hello, Carrie. I suppose the two of us are early." he said. "I have good news. I've found at least some legends on the stone."

He showed the passage to Carrie.

"My current hypothesis is that Team Rocket hopes to awaken these pokemon and bend them to their will."
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Carrie took a seat next to him, reading the passage.

"...Oh.  Yeah, it certainly looks that way."  She pondered this new information, idly cleaning her glasses.  "So if this stone is some kind of crystalized soul, and there's two of these dragons, do you think the second stone Brock was talking about is the other dragon soul?  The one Misty has."  She sighed.  "It doesn't say anything about whether or not both stones need to be present for the... resurrection?  Summoning?  Whatever it really is."

She put her glasses back on.  "I hope they do.  Because even if we can prevent them from stealing the second stone, we'd be screwed if they had a legendary dragon on their side."
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
"Well perhaps if that is the case, getting the stone beforehand is even more important." Ray mused. "After all, if Team Rocket gets a god on their side we might need a god on ours."

Carrie nodded.  "I'd rather neither of us had a god than both of us, though.  The dragons might be able to duel each other to a stalemate, but Team Rocket still outnumbers us.  By a lot.  They'd gang up on our dragon, and then we'd be worse off."

"See you at the meeting place, Charles."

    ---

After finishing at the pokecenter, returning her father's Zigzagoon and giving a definite (but hopefully not final) goodbye, she met Carrie and Ray at the bench.

"Hey, guys. Whatcha reading? Oh, and Carrie, do you have a tent already?" (If not, you can safely assume I went back to buy one).
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
"Well then, I suppose we'll just have to make up for it being smarter, stronger, and more charming than them won't we?" Ray said, doing his best not to let his anxiousness show.

    "Pix!" Phillip answered.

"Right now we simply do what we can and amass allies as they come."

Carrie nodded.  "Yep.  Bought one before I came to Pewter.  I was expecting a journey, anyway."  (Just subtract 500 or whatever it is and pretend she always had it  :V)

"And we're reading about the Enigma stone.  It... doesn't sound good."  She then proceeded to fill Jackie in on what they'd learned.

She nodded at Ray and grinned.  "We've certainly got that part down."

Charles handed over the credits and went to the meeting spot, spotting the others. "Hey, I got a tent. So did Jackie. So girls in one guys in the other?"
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Ray blinked. So focused on finding information was he that he had forgotten about needs for long travel. "Errr.... yes, that would be appropriate. Also, I'll reimburse you my share later."

"Sweet. Good thing I didn't buy one already, then.

"Girls in one, guys in the other makes the most sense, yeah."

"Alright Ray. I bought two days extra in case if anybody did forget. You can have three days of water - I can just have the snow made by Snow's attack if it comes down to it. There is a Vulpix that can boil it after all, right?"

He then took out a book. "I also got a book that lists some edible plants. We can scour the trail for some while walking to Mt Moon, and see if any edible mushrooms are in there"

Carrie nodded solemnly at Jackie.  "Yep.  By the way, the rent to sleep in my tent is 200 credits a night, due every Friday."

"So, how has the Machop been behaving?" Jackie asked the nurse she talked to. "Assuming he's awake yet."

    ---

Jackie affected shock. "You're not really gonna charge me for that, are you?" Cue puppy-dog eyes.

Charles looked over at Carrie. "Now that's just mean"

He then looked down. "...I'm going to see if any wild Pokemon are around here. Even if we don't catch one, we might be able to convince one to help us out and lead us through Mt Moon. I heard that the place is a bit maze like"
