Rape fetishism

  • Actually, quite a few people consider things that aren't SSC to be BDSM. The power dynamics of BDSM hinge quite emphatically that consent is key. You can be practicing sadist without actually actually doing acts considered to be BDSM, if you're not keeping things safe, sane, and consentual. On the other hand, you could be in a sado-masochistic relationship that's also fully consensual and enjoyed on both ends. So I don't quite think that being sexually aroused by pain and suffering is a bad thing, it just means you have to find a partner who enjoys dishing it out (if you're a masochist) or taking it (if you're a sadist).
  • Katrika -  You can certainly be a sadist without being safe, sane or consensual, the problem is (a) that you're highly liable to end up as a sadist serving a lengthy prison term and (b) if you aren't acting sanely, you are by definition insane.

It's more realistic that you could be a sadist in a relationship where your partner consents to stuff that isn't safe or sane, but even that has legal risks. At one point (i.e. when I last studied criminal law), the legal position in England was that there was no defence of consent to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. It's quite possible that non-SSC activity could lead to actual bodily harm.

  • You can change. You can.
@katrika: but BDSM is a paraphillia, in this case, the sexual taste for pain, restraints, humilliation, etc.

Whatever the people who have such a preference do, whether is good or bad, is BDSM as long as it falls within the definition stated above.
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
BDSM is not only an act thing like ropes and humilliation, it is a full grown subculture now, so, you can say to be sadist but not participate in things that the general consensus of the subculture consider BDSM.
  • You can change. You can.
But BDSM is not a subculture. It just has a subculture.

And just because you're into the same things they're into doesn't mean you have to agree with them and carry yourself the same way they do about them.

People conflate BDSM with its subculture, there's not many differences to my statement from a pragmatic standpoint, and you know it is true.
  • 1) I see no problem with rape fetishes* (general BDSM fetishist here, which kind of does include rape), and if this isn't importing any kind of drama I can kind of see why AHR felt defensive, especially at Everest.
    2) Again, if this isn't "speaking ill of the banned" or anything, my problem with Chagen was not that he had a weird fetish, it was that he was so hypocritical about it. Only HIS weird fetish was okay; some other not-even-that-weird fetishes were "going against God" or something.
    3) PROBABLY a rape fetish is not the first thing you'd share with people who don't trust you. I have only TWO friends IRL who know what I get off to.

*Fetishes are almost entirely seperate from normal sexuality; a rape fetishist isn't any more likely to rape some random person than a waterworks fetishist is to piss on some random person. Pretend maybe, but the border is a good bit clearer than you'd imagine.

Barely relevant to the discussion at hand (Which is to define BDSM)

and tell me, would i be less of a sadist because i enjoyed other people's pain in a non-SSC fashion?

cuz that's all there is to it, in a nutshell.

I mean, yeah, any members of the BDSM subculture would look down on you, that's definetly true, but that doesn't stop it from falling under the definition of the paraphillia known as sadomasochism, would it?

unless BDSM only refers to the subculture, which it probably does and thus it'd mean I'd be wrong. --shrug--
  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.
BDSM is a handy acronym that groups different paraphilias together: Bondage Discipline-Dominance Submission-Sadism Masochism. It is a subculture focused on these paraphilias and their derivatives.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I'd say that BDSM is pretty much becoming/has become a subculture with people defining large parts of themselves by it.

    > than a waterworks fetishist is to piss on some random person.

I hilariously misread this as "than a waterworks fetishist is to piss off some random person."
  • I think a waterworks fetishist is more likely to piss OFF some random person than ANYONE is likely to rape ANYONE.

Also, I think that fetish is named "watersports", not "waterworks".
  • You are correct, sir!

I think I've mentioned before here on IJBM how much that name annoys me.  It's like, you're looking for pictures of women surfing, swimming, or diving, and so you search for "water sports" and you end up finding piss all over the place.

    Now that pisses me off.
  • Which search engine do you use?

And why pictures? Isn't it better to watch sports in motion?

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^^ oh u

^^ I don't remember, it was a while ago last time I tried searching that.

That said, yes, sports in motion are always better.
  • They're somethin' else.
    what is a waterworks fetish?

    Goddamn it Glenn.

I was going to make that joke.

Sorry.  You want Electric Company instead?
  • They're somethin' else.
I repeat my question. What is it?
  • Watersports = sexualized urine
  • Rather, "watersports" is usually associated with peeing on people/people being peed on.  It's sometimes considered distinct from other sexualized uriney things, like omorashi.
  • They're somethin' else.
    Engh...

Well, at least its not what I originally thought it was: A fetish for a woman's tears :V
  • You can change. You can.

Not outside of Japan it isn't.
It's considered to be part of Urophilia/Urolagnia.
  • *sigh*

Okay. Now that the ban has been lifted, I suppose I should put my thoughts out there.

THINGS I WOULD FIRST LIKE TO STATE:

-I am not asking for you to support my fetish.
-I am not "only" attracted to rape.

-If I were to see a picture, video, or news story regarding actual rape, I would be horrified.

-I could never rape a person in real life.

-I am aware of how severe the crime of rape is in reality.

-Man, I really shouldn't be typing this post in the middle of my Women in American Literature class. The person next to me caught a glimpse of the thread title, and is looking at me very oddly.

-I am not asking you to join me in my fetish.

-I am attracted to a wide range of things. As cliché as it is, this title does not "define" me.

Here is what I am asking you:

Do not ridicule my fetish without warrant. If you don't like porn, don't read/look at it. Don't make threads about it. Don't talk about it in an open forum.

On that note, I am aware of the hypocrisy of my statement, as AHR did indeed make those threads. Honestly? She shouldn't have. With this being said, the thread over at TV Tropes, which prompted it, should not have been made either. (I am aware that AHR should not have imported drama, but I am including this just as a personal defense.)

What do I like about Rape Fetishism? Well, it's not something I particularly chose. I liked the idea of having power over people from a young age. It didn't really manifest as a sexual thing until I was a teenager and discovered that A: There was porn of this, and B: I was not the only person who felt this way, and was not a freak.

I merely like powerplay. To be honest, I enjoy femdom from time to time as well. As for there being a distinction between regular rape, and rape where someone starts 'enjoying' it, I disagree with this notion, because why the hell bother? Both are fictional acts done to fictional people. If you can watch an ACTUAL video of rape, and find that attractive, then you have a problem. You are a sociopath. But this isn't about that. This is about, essentially, fake-rape, which is a step away from master/slave relations, which is a step away from BDSM, which is a step away from simple bondage, which is a step away from plain ol' vanilla sex.

This isn't a matter of forcing my views on other people. I don't want that. I seriously don't. This is, however, about being in a friendly forum environment, where we don't have to worry about feeling bullied or beaten up on. That's all.
