    Does Macross 7 really count as real robot? Doesn't it have mechas powered by rock music fighting space vampires or something?

    Gunbuster kinda blurs the lines between super and real. But the shouty attacks are there, very much. Noriko Hidaka is the best at shouting attacks.

    Macross is real robot, yes.  Trust me, I know people who take the distinction very seriously, and they class it as real robot.  It's because it focuses more on the characters than the robots themselves, and because there isn't "one robot to rule them all", the robots are very fragile and get damaged and destroyed far easier than your average super robot.

    @Chagen: The original isn't. Of course, the original isn't really anything-robot since the transforming mechas spend way more time in plane form than mech form anyway. But it's closer to real.

    @Moerin: The franchise as a whole certainly is, but I've just heard 7 is...different. I haven't actually seen it though.
