Samus being a bounty hunter

She was never implied to be in fear of Ridley before
@Alex. Metroids can be cloned by the pirates... So eliminating the Metroids wasn't even a good tactic.
That said, I do not feel bad in the slightest about slaughtering them en masse. Suckers gunna get iced.
2. The games, on the other hand, are pretty much mercenary work, or in the case of Fusion, mercenary work gone awry.due to the details of the mission. She is definitely NOT there to capture any fugitives--not like Kraid and Ridley would be up for that anyway. Especially Ridley, as he seems to be quite bloodthirsty.
3. I really liked that video about Other M. Thanks, @MadassAlex. I haven't played Other M, but I've definitely heard a lot about the premise, as well as a lot of criticisms of the game, so I've wondered what was wrong with it. That commentary acknowledged that the premise was a good idea, but the execution was not done well, and this was the missing link.
4. I don't think crying should be a big part of Samus's characterization, except when used very, very, very sparingly in very special circumstances. She's gotten used to living alone, not so much projecting strength as not projecting anything at all, really. I don't remember why this was mentioned but whatever.

> I could have forgiven a lot. But goddamn that voice actress. She had no ability to emote. None. At all.
She was actually told specifically to use an unemotional tone in her voice-acting, so it's not her fault. For some commentary from the "real" Jessica Martin, see this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOZeapJn9z8 . Here is Jessica Martin singing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3WPpD5IyTM

> Metroid II - Actually I've never been clear on if Samus was hired
to exterminate the Metroids or if it was entirely a personal mission
after she had a "fuck I never want to go through Torian again" reaction.
I think she was hired for it, but you're right, neither Super nor Fusion actually confirms it.

> Metroid Prime was great because it tapped into the atmosphere, isolation
and mystery that made the originals so powerful. With the addition of
the scan feature, it also meant that it could tell a story via fragments
and implication, which was very in-character for the series.
This. I didn't really enjoy the series early on, but I definitely enjoyed the half or so that I've played of Prime so far. I REALLY, REALLY like the use of the scan visor to provide fragmented details about the story, setting, and backstory.
I also really like the music and atmosphere of Prime and Fusion. ZM's music is also great, though the atmosphere isn't as good.
Metroids. Unless someone was to track them all down, destroy them, and
then destroy all data concerning them. And then kill everyone with
knowledge of them. Everyone.
I think metroid extermination programs would be put on review after the events of Fusion.
> She was never implied to be in fear of Ridley before
This happened explicitly in the Metroid manga.
There's your issue.
Besides, it directly contradicts the games. By the time Other M rolls around, she's defeated him at least five times or so. What's one more?
essentially just human? The way I hear it, Chozo technologies were
responsible for her recovery rather than literal genetic engineering.
We know very, very little about how Chozo biotech works, so it could presumably be just about anything.
Also, by the end of Fusion, she's part-human, part-chozo, part-metroid, and part-X. Meanwhile, Ridley is a zombie clone cyborg vampire space pirate dragon enforcer, who is also part-X.
around, she's defeated him at least five times or so. What's one more?
Where does it?
Also, that event in the manga happens canonically before any of the games, so it makes some more sense that she steeled her resolve to defeat him.
Also, the whole Grey Voice thing is from the manga anyway.
@Juan_Carlos: What's wrong with using that?
Like the manga of Kingdom Hearts. It sets up the basic events, and how they pretty much happened, but all the added drama and comedy (and fanservice) is not really in the game.
What's the world coming to? At this rate, they're gonna...
...
...BRING BACK FAKE KRAID!
...Y'know, if they ever do that, they ought to make him actually look like real Kraid, or look like NES Kraid. Either one.
And keep in mind, Samus couldn't even go through with it--that widdle baby metroid was just so kewt.
Apparently in her mind slaughtering the big, killer metroids was okay, but she couldn't bring herself to kill the baby (and Super Metroid makes it explicit that it was personal choice this time--she wasn't explicitly under orders to bring back a sample).
I actually did make it clear what I meant. And acting like a dipshit doesn't help your credibility much.
If you don't like Dantes's arguments, target his arguments, not him. Thank you.
As for Other M, it seems that how good it is doesn't yet have consensus, but there is a lot of reports that there may be consistency issues between Samus's story and character in Other M and in the rest of the series's continuity.
???
I wonder if Japanese gamers were more accepting of Other M?
And there is a strong feminist movement in Japan, though they're probably more concerned with bigger issues than bad characterization in a vidya.
