Juan, Ninja: Ah, thanks for the explanation
  • "unless you live in Australia and your ISP deliberately logs your browsing info, nothing legally wrong can come from here"

Good to know. I was a little suspicious of everyone freaking out about the legal ramifications of this, but I couldn't find anything about it.
  • I miss two days because my hard drive crashes and I must've missed something big.

From what I gather, Inkblot linked to CP or something and was banned, correct?
  • edited 2011-09-07 02:49:09
    ^^ Yes.

Two days after Vorpy did the exact same thing.
  • You can change. You can.
Yesterday, Vorpy used Let Me Google that For You to link to a search for child porn. Obviously this did not sit well with everyone, which got her banned.

Inkblot, today, decided that he wanted to be banned in a funny way, so he did the same.

He linked to a Let Me Google That For You for it.

    As did Vorpy.

Yes, which is really only notably because Vorpy did the exact same thing like, a day or two before Ink.

    DAMN YOU MOTHERFUCKERS ARE FAST.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    goddamn you all
  • At least you weren't the very last person the point out what everyone else already said.

    I hate you guys. >:[
  • Wait Vorpy too? Holy shit.

    Wow.

That...is not okay and that's putting it lightly. CP is serious shit. You can say "you should be careful on the internet" all you want, but there is nothing about CP that is funny or witty or anything other than disgusting and tragic, and using the suffering of real children to make a pointless and tasteless joke on a forum is wrong on all levels.

I try to condemn the offense and not the offender most times, but I'm actually pretty angry. I expected better of individuals of our community. Stuff like this could give everyone else a very bad name very quickly.
  • I noticed how everyone calls Ink an asshole yet with Vorpy it's all, "Vorpy's gonna vorp"

You clearly didn't understand the implications of "Vorpys gonna vorp".
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I cannot believe how stupid this all was.

    >Stuff like this could give everyone else a very bad name very quickly.
  • I for one do not care about the internet reputation of this username with the people who know little enough about me that they make conclusions about my character based on hiccups on the forum.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    ^
I was using in a general forum sense.
As if the forum gets such a perceived attribute it could stunt the community.
  • Do we even care about getting more users at this point? Seems like there haven't been many in a while.

I guess attracting the wrong sort of people could be bad, maybe.
  • You can change. You can.
Bluh bluh, stop that shit, man. Nobody can look wrong for having a link that is supposed to lead to a google search customized by a third party, geez.

Again, I see the whole thing as morally reprehensible, yes, but going with the lega/rep argument? That just reeks of need to blow things outta proportion.

You kinda can. Especially in Australia. (It's not likely, but I'd really prefer it if this forum hadn't taken my chances of getting in trouble for searching for child porn from zero to miniscule.) After all, it's not that link that's the problem- it's the fact that that link then redirects you further to the search itself.

And when people look in and see links to things like that, it can turn them off the site, yes.

I'm kind of sick of this discussion now anyway though/
  • You can change. You can.
    You kinda can.

Again, any lawyer worth their salt can easily argue that something you a search made for you is not something you intended to happen.

And that's assuming that such a thing can even go to higher authority level than lots and lots of paperwork

(It's not likely, but I'd really prefer it if this forum hadn't taken my chances of getting in trouble for searching for child porn from zero to miniscule.)

    I can agree to this.

It's just that the legality angle doesn't really hold water.
  • I could probably just e-mail my ISP and go "The CP wasn't me, I was linked to a LMGTFY" and the matter would be dealt with.

    Because iiNet>all other Australian ISPs

Again, any lawyer worth their salt can easily argue that something you a search made for you is not something you intended to happen.

The charges themselves are a problem and a black mark on my record. Not to mention the time and legal fees. The charges wouldn't stick, but no longer would I be able to tick "I have never been charged with a criminal offence" on employment applications.

Again, not that it's likely, but thanks to inkblot's actions, the chances have moved from 'Nothing' to 'Incredibly unlikely'.

    ... Inkblot did WHAT?!

Geez, even if I wanted to get myself banned, I would never do something like that (well, I'd have to look for CP myself for that and I certainly don't want that).

  • $80+ per session
    >implying searching for it in google yourself would actually give it to you
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Yeah,if you search for CP in Google you'll most probably get news about it and Wikipedia articles. That stuff is hidden in deep web
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.

Not that simple, of course, but where's a will, there's a way. Not that I want to know what the way here is.

Also, looking over the thread a bit more, there is another thing that catches my eye:

Vorpy is perma-banned and pulled the same shit before?!

  • $80+ per session
I don't think she did this before.

Actually, I'm positive she did it only once.
  • How perma are we talking about here? Like literal, you will never be on this site again, or IJBM style "come and talk to us again in a couple of months and we'll probably let you back"?
  • edited 2011-09-07 09:26:59
    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Vorpy did it only once. It's not something you stick around long enough to do twice.

And permanent means permanent. Nobody permabanned here has ever come back, as far as I'm aware. We hand out a lot of tempbans, but we call them tempbans from the start.
