    Yeah... The Umineko art is bad, but I think I could get used to it. The original Higurashi art... not so much.

    Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Question arcs) - 1.85 GB

    Fate/stay night - 2.51 GB

    Ever17 - 2.87 GB

    Saya no Uta - 258 MB

    Tsukihime - 422 MB

    Clannad - 4.17 GB

    TL;DR: the hard and depressing numbers about the visual novel industry.


    Even more TL;DR: Sex sells.


     


    Basically, while story-heavy games get more lauded and are more likely to be hits, (so to speak) dirty games are cheaper to make, easier to profit off of, have better long-tail sales, and are less likely to produce losses.


    Seriously, this is why supporting clean visual novels is an important thing.

    Pretty much all the best Japanese visual novels made are eroge though. I know what you're saying but there's a huge difference between a plot with porn game and a porn with plot game.


     


    Grisaia is going to be localized and it's the former, same with Ourai no Gahkthun (Which is written by one of the most lauded writers in Japan.

    Between fault MS1 and this VN "An Octave Higher" describing themselves as oriented toward "western" tastes and also having serious story in contrast to a dating sim sort of thing, I'm going to conclude based on two data points that the "this VN has western storytelling" product descriptor actually refers to the VN aiming to tell a serious story rather than going for a multiroute romance story / dating sim sort of thing.
