How does this even *happen*? How on earth can a person *willingly* hook up with an idiotic and overly angry drunkard, for reasons other than because they someone like being abused?
I've seen this thing plenty of times, and haven't the foggiest as to the cause. The only explanation that I can come up with is that marriage somehow makes a couple complacent and thus willing to be a monster.

On-topic: Some people may be obnoxious and not co-operative when you try to show you should really ditch the dude or dudette, but that just means you need to hitch them up with outside help instead of deciding not to bother anymore cos the person too silly to ever realize the nature of the relationship.
