    It has been noted by TV executives that Magical Girl series usually have Multiple Demographic Appeal — not only are they popular among 4 to 9-year-old girls, but also among 19 to 30 year-old males. Shows such as Futari Wa Pretty Cure attempt to please both demographics. Nanoha is made exclusively for the second.

    This pretty much unambiguously states that it's Seinen.

    Not that shoujo/shonen/seinen/josei mean anything at all.

    FYI the Nanoha fandom's fanart is okay.

    The thing with Nanoha is that it's a magical girl series that takes its art design inspiration from super robot shows like GGG and whatnot.

    The series quickly turns from magical girl to Magitech anyway.  The first season (13 eps) is kinda like a short-form magical girl show, in the second (13 eps) you get some muttering about lore alongside lots of gratuitous magical dueling, and the third season (26 eps) is basically a war fought using magic, preceded by military training slice-of-life.

    * Nanoha being a bit crazily trigger-happy
    * Nanoha applying Defeat Means Friendship to every season's villains
    * stuff about crazily powerful magic spells, especially Starlight Breakers, being fired every which way
    * Fate being Teh Sexeh
    * Vita's Graf Eisen being used to bash everything
    * Signum's being an extremely honorable badass
    * lesbian shipping and subtext--Nanoha x Fate, Subaru x Teana, and then jokes about Erio being the only guy around
