Well, I've officially left TVTropes

... but I guess, for some people, that's just what the forum is.
This. Though I don't think I've been less active in the non-IJBM parts of the forums any less since its demise.
And I mostly just lurk in the middle section.
I went to the site a few times.
ADS AND FIFTEEN YEAR OLDS
ADS AND FIFTEEN YEAR OLDS EVERYWHERE.
^Oh please, you got banned from there. Twice.
That doesn't mean that there weren't ads and fifteen-year olds everywhere.
And my ban has almost been universally declared as bogus, anyway. I didn't know that decrying Nazi fetishism and bestiality were considered to be cardinal sins on that site.
Jammies/Fetishes
Actually, it's because they're too big and grow too quickly, but still.
Exceptions for the ones I do read, of course.
I quit going mostly because people didn't want me there, and one person finally said "I don't hate you, but you are really ruining this place and annoying a lot of people." so eventually I took her advice and quit coming back. The disproportionate feel of "If it gets too serious, make it lose all seriousness, after all, it's just the internet" behavior when it came to touchy subjects, and how willing people are to fixate and parrot negative responses and half-assedly inject drama into anything that may be a touchy subject. Aside from that, all of the people I went there to read posts from got less and less intelligent and more cynical and jaded, and rather than explaining why things should be better, began telling others why it will never get better.
There's actually a screencap from it in Encyclopedia Dramatica's TV Tropes entry now.
EDIT: Added link to relevant blog entry to this post.

He also believes that TV Tropes is popular because of its positive, gushing tone and that sites that focus too much on negativity will die out or lose relevance in a few years, pointing to Something Awful and ED as examples. While it's not my business how he runs the site, a tiny, stupid part of me wants the forum and/or site to collapse, just to prove that you can't run a website solely on smiles.
