To be fair, that circuit diagram isn't nearly as terrifying to an actual electrical engineer. It's a language like any other, except you read it in pages instead of paragraphs, and the "words" you're looking for are clusters of components in familiar patterns.

Still way over my understanding, but I'm sure my dad would look at it and go "oh, okay."
