    For what it's worth, we also have "the man" and "the policeman" as the figure to scare the kids into behaving, and I'm willing to guess they have already surpassed Baba Yaga in popularity. (Also, around here she is more of a generic forest witch.) And then there was the infamous Black Volga.

    I'd have thought TradCaths would be the kind of people who find the idea of an absolute authority appealing.
    It could've been bait, but I remember a tradcath LARPer posting about how s/he went to mass and was indignated about the priest claiming that we're all the same under God regardless of race, that we should be kind to the downtrodden, etc.
    I'm glad that last poster is there tho, I was wondering how many of those first posts were coming from a place of believing "in Catholicism the pope is infallible" and similar nonsense.
