Still, I'm glad I actually got over my hype aversion to those two so I could actually experience them.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
If it replaced all the ponies with bunnies I would watch it.

Your premise intrigues me and I wish to know more.
  • I like bunnies.

    I don't like ponies.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
^ This would lead to a lot worse rule 34ing though.

    Hmmm...
  • It'd probably be better if they were just humans.

Because humans are better than ponies and bunnies
  • "This would lead to a lot worse rule 34ing though."

    I hate certain reminders.
  • MLP has bunnies, a particularly memorable one too if that counts as something.
  • How much screentime does it have?
  • There are bunnies in MLP:FiM. Granted, they're one of the species that can't talk, but one of the characters is a rabbit that's very expressive.

There's one episode where a minor plot point is that one of the ponies needs to count the newborns for a bunny census.

    Has friends besides tanks now
    BUNNIES?! :D I love bunnies!

Speaking of, who here has read Watership Down besides me?

    "humans are better than bunnies"

    :<

I'm watching you DYRE. I don't trust you no more.

Uhh . . . -ahem- I don't usually have this specific reason for avoiding popular shows; the shows that I avoid that are popular (Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion) are just too old, mostly. Or I tried them and got bored.

Ahh I remember, its name is Angel. It's quite cheeky. Bunnies appear sporadically, but their appearance are indeed memorable.
  • "a bunny named angel"

WHICH EPISODE DOES IT SHOW UP IN

    ^^^ I've read it.

The best part was [all the horrific death]. :D

This opening scene is probably the most screentime he's had in an episode. Just watch until the intro song.

  • You can change. You can.

Now, this bugs me, but let's not go there. I'll make the thread later

.See, it's one thing to give something like Homestuck a chance and then not like it, or to not read it because it's not the type of thing you think you'd enjoy. Everyone has different tastes, it's perfectly fine to not like something that everyone else does.

It's just when people start not liking things specifically because they're popular, or have heard people hyping, that I get kind of irritated.

Again, my problem is more that I'm expected to like it and that I can't enjoy it because I can't form an opinion without thinking about the fandom and their reactions to the show, you know?

I enjoyed Evangelion because I watched it without expecting anything more than a show about mechas and a deconstruction. And my conclusion was that it was far from perfect, but that it was my thing.

I wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much if I had all the Rei fans on top of me telling me to like her, nor all the fans in general telling me that just because I can't appreciate X plot point it's because I don't have enough brain cells and whatever.

Do I feel this attitude is sound and everyone should follow it? Hell no. Does it work for me? Yes

    ^^^ I lol'd

Though if that's the most screentime he shows up for i'm not interested enough.

So, if you don't watch something because people hyping it up is going to raise your expectations and make you enjoy it less, can't you anticipate that you won't enjoy it as much and just expect it to be only marginally enjoyable so there won't be any disappointment?

But I guess if you only expect marginal enjoyment, there's not much motivation to see it...
  • I don't think it's necessarily quite that easy, though.
  • Watching television is hard?
  • I also somehow didn't notice Madoka hype by the time it aired episode 9.

I have no idea how that happened.
  • ^^ No, but it is hard to force yourself to have different expectations for a show based on hype.

It's really hard for me lower my expectations, to be honest, and even if I somehow manage it, whenever I lower them, I simply start questioning myself for watching the show and nitpick everything to hell in a grumpy fashion...so, no, that doesn't work.

It's not like I'm saying you should try to lower expectations, I'm just wondering why they aren't lowered.

Oh, and I feel like commenting on Edmania's preference for rabbits. I think it's a little odd that a character's looks can make you enjoy it more.

    This.

Just accept that you can't convert everyone to ponydom, Gelzo.

I have to admit, I didn't think Ed was a rabbit person...

Post was redundant, so it was edited out.
  • "I watched the first 60 seconds of that. It was enough to decide ponies are meh."
