People who complain about western series using Animesq Art styles.

Seriously. Do these people not know that it went pretty much in a circle here? many early Anime and Manga series were visually inspired by Western Animation.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.

    People complain about this? Why?
  • Writer, Artist, Obscure.
I.... I'm seeing no issues in a Tnu thread.

    ....

As you were, this is a very good point.

  • You can change. You can.
    Because people complain about everything.

Visually, they were inspired by the animation capabilities of the time.

    For reference:

    A 1960's cartoon.

Kimba, an early anime made in the same time period.

Mod edit: Fixing the second image; previously broken link.
  • Well, it depends.  Are they complaining about this on principle (a Western cartoon is copying a Japanese cartoon style, therefore it's bad by default, would be the reasoning here) or just because they don't like the style of most anime, so they don't like the Western cartoons that copy it?  Because those are totally different things.  The latter is a reasonably valid complaint.  The former is kind of silly though.

The Powerpuff Girls and My Little Pony have Anime to thank for their existence.

People who complain about this need to have their panties rewired.

Cygan: But that's illogical. you're assuming all of western animation looks the same. And that all of anime looks the same.

Look at Cowboy Bebop for an example of what tnu means.
  • huh I thought there was inspiration drawn from the animation of western countries.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
It's hard to quantify, really, considering how much more varied Western animation tends to be than anime.
  • Which Powerpuff Girls series came first anyway?

The Powerpuff Girls came before Powerpuff Girls Z, or whatever the more animesque one was called. Or rather, the one where they had small bodies and huge heads came first.

He talked specifically about early anime being inspired by western animation.

Same way that Kurosawa drew from Western to make the Seven Samurais, you know? It's not as if anime was a consistent artstyle made by the same people. I know many people complain about it being same-y but when you get right down to it...well, there are differences between art styles.

I'm not saying that early anime and western animation had the same exact artstyle, or hell there was much of a resemblance, but they helped and inspired each other. Mostly through animation techniques such as moving on from the rotoscope and back to proper film and stuff.

^^ To some extent it was.  Osamu Tezuka claimed to be heavily inspired by various American cartoons and comic books.  And his style was very influential for other manga artists (and consequently, influenced anime).  So... there definitely was at least some influence from Western animation.

Anime was made before the 1960's, yes. But it didn't have anime's distinctive style.

And that is why people complain about Western Animesque shows. Because they're copying a distinctive style.

That's actually what caused a different forum break that I have figured out how to exploit. This was different though. Check it (let me know if this is excessively obstructive-):

Can you fix the page now?

I figured out what happened. I think you erased one of the tags from an ALREADY broken text. Has something to do with hotlinking images.

I just did it over in the sandbox and it made THE ENTIRE PAGE into my text box.

I can't erase the tags though!

What I did was highlight the text, click 'hyperlink' and copy-pasted the URL! That's it!

Hyper linking Wiki images seems horrendously buggy.
