That is one way of putting it.
Believe me, if Jim Profit wanted to come back here, he would. You can't run away from the dude, he's fucking everywhere.
There's this FB page called Socialist Meme Caucus, ran by some British commies, which one of my party comrades regularly jacks off over. Jim has been banned and unbanned from it a couple of times already, I think.
Does he just type random phrases into google, find a forum about that phrase, join and then cause a fuss until he gets banned ad nauseum?
He does regularly google his name, at least.
Jim Profit isn't a single person.
Where'd you get that? I'm pretty sure he is.
Ive been told by a number of people that it's a shared alias.
Hmmm, I dunno. The guy on his Youtube channel is one and the same, and his infatuation with MaoistRebel or whatever the hell he's called is consistent, wherever he shows up.
If that's true, it must be one hell of a hivemind.
There are definitely multiple people using the name, but it actually is mostly one guy, as far as I can tell.
What they mean is that Jim Profit (as the poster, not as the character), has become a meme of sorts, and it's likely that his appearances freaking everywhere are because of people deliberately copying him.
Unless, of course, shit changed, yo.
I'm pretty sure the BTL one is at least the same as the "main" guy, since he posted about it on YouTube.
Welp, it's down again. Disregard that.
My apologizes for double posting and bumping this, but it seems TVTropes is down again.
You mean you're not the only one where the site takes a stonking long time to load, refuses to recognize you and doesn't even acknowledge the existence of existing pages?
Yeah, that's what's happening to me too...
MyAnimeList is also currently down.
Seems like TVT's doing some sort of upgrade.
There was a brief time this morning where you were treated to a different login page, which then posted to a nonexistent validation page.
I get that site upgrades will involve some interim trouble and are best done while the site is offline, but why on earth you would replace a live page before even placing all the components it references is beyond me. Work that shit out on a test domain.
I hope they don't end up implementing another pointless change, such as hiding the discussion forums or removing colored text.
I think it's a sign of addiction when I keep trying to go to the wiki, forgetting that it's down.
Meh, I wouldn't care, unless it was another of Eddie's sudden strokes of vision. Otherwise - like one day without TVT was that much of a loss. (edit: it's a reply to ^^)
The removal of colored text killed the fun of the Umineko WMG pages. Oh well.
I think it is to remove the hottip markup. All the hottip cleanup pages were finished a day or two ago.
Is there a similar markup taking its place? Because at the very least that's going to screw up Memes pages where each entry has to have an Explanation.
That always bugged me too. Eddie's often made changes that completely broke some functionality (like the time he accidentally made it so only banned users could post on the entire forum), which seems to suggest he just makes changes to the live site without testing them anywhere first.
Like, hell, Heapers' Hangout is just a silly little forum, but even our admin tests things before he implements them on the actual site!
It reminds me of those traffic signal collectors who go on about how they don't bother to ground their equipment, then turn around and complain about how they're always getting shocked.
...he made it so that only banned users could post on the forum? Amazing.
I know bugger all about TVTropes' source code, but that could have been as little as a few mistyped booleans (i.e. a 'true' where there's meant to be a 'false', or vice versa).
But yeah, still doesn't excuse Eddie (or Gus, cause I think he's the one who actually writes most of the site's PHP code) from the responsibilities of proper debugging.
I thought Gus passed away a while ago.
^^ Yeah, it was pretty obvious he just fat-fingered something, but it was still an amusing thing to see.
^ I believe that's correct, insofar as Eddie can be considered a reliable source.
