I've wanted to learn russian for a while but college have not given me the time to do so. I also want to learn japanese, german and latin.

Actually, the reason I want to learn japanese is not anime and manga, but rather that the alphabetic system is almost perfect. There's also the fact that it is a full left-branching language, unlike spanish which is full right-branching (even if it allows exceptions), it is also a SOV language. And I want to learn an asian language. The reason I don't want to learn mandarin is the fact that it is a tonal language, and I am not gonna try to adjust myself at 20 years old for that. So, mister Irdgck, kindly fuck off with your assumption.

so that's one of the things that I was so confused of. When I came to the internet, it seemed like all the cool kids are into anime, then it seemed it's pedo weeaboo sperg Jap crap, then it seemed it works in yet another way. So how am I supposed to know what's cool? I just can't keep up with the in-crowd these days.

That's an interesting, and also kind of complicated question.
They used to consider themselves Serbian all until somewhere in the mid-20th century, due to various factors which I won't get into. Regardless, the population is now split between those who consider themselves Serbian and those who consider themselves Montenegrin on a roughly 50/50 basis, and since they've become independent in 2006 the question of the official language is curently in the limelight, since the official language has been Serbian for all this time. Some want to retain Serbian as the official language, while others want it to be Montenegrin (which is actually an old, archaic dialect of Serbian that's currently being used only by old people living in the mountains).
It still doesn't make much difference, since in practice, the languages are nigh identical, and the differences between Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian and Montenegrin aren't any bigger than the differences between, say, US English and UK English. It's practically the same language (call it Serbo-Croatian or Shtokavian), and the split is there only for political reasons.
