And welcome back.
I just tried the Terrafirmacraft mod for Minecraft
Holy FUCK balls is it hard. I had to cut down whole forests just to prepare to make charcoal so I can get metal tools. Stones used for tools are non renewable and the only way to get things like wood at first, saplings take forever to grow, the charcoal pit is the most complex block relationship thing I've experienced and yet it is one of the FIRST things you have to do...
...Maybe my first hint that it would be hell was when people were calling it Dwarf Fortress meets Minecraft...?
I want to play Minearria.
^ There's a mod for that
Minecraft or Terraria mod?
^ Minecraft
Also, gah, the Terrafirma beginners guide said to take out the metal before it turns liquid. Turns out... It needs to be liquid
v.v;
nope.avi
This is the best thing ever.
Bad news: one of my laptop fans is broken.
Neutral news: book cooking session is over, and Wednesday will be decharging time. It's been a turbulent year, but I'm gonna miss the activities committee.
Good news: was one of the early buyers, so I now have 5 extra VIP tickets for the Venetian Ball Saturday. Selectively rounding up cool bros and brodettes will be quite a task.
Finally got the internet back at home.
Argh my roommate continues to be annoying.
^ Would it be possible to elaborate on that?
I can't say I agree with all of Basil Marceaux
dot com's political views, but one point in particular...I really like this idea. Even merely getting students to confront such information without prior knowledge, as rough as the experience might be at first, would be an incredible improvement on the state of civics education in the U.S. right now.
Not having learnt anything about matrices beyond the linear algebra course is biting me in the ass. Stupid things, why did you have to be so irrelevant to the career until now.
Well, my brother's car got stolen. Fucking great.
That sucks.
@Glenn: Basically...
You know what's really bad? It's obvious it was stolen because he added internal modifications, but also bought visuals like custom rims and a spoiler, as well as a double exhaust. Of course people are gonna want to steal it.
The worst part? He doesn't know yet, I HAVE TO TELL HIM HIS BELOVED CAR IS GONE, possibly forever.
crimson: kick him in the nuts
that's how america works right
So I just finished Suburban Knights. I think the whole thing with Spoony thinking it was a larp instead of real is pretty much the funniest thing TGWTG has ever done.
ninjaclown: I honestly don't think a car of that description is going to be missed. If someone wants to steal a riced-up car, let them.
Well, my family's kinda one of those that overall has low income, so a thing like a missing car is kind of a big deal, and by that a huge deal.
Yeah, but imagine the money he could have saved by not putting dumb modifications on what was likely an econobox.
Yeah, but imagine the money that could have been saved had they now not needed to buy a new car.
True, that does suck, and that can't be denied.
How long do you think it'll take to save up for a new one, assuming the first one can't be found again?
(Assuming the stolen car can't be seen a mile away /okayIneedtodropthatjokenow)
We can buy another immediately, we've been saving for such an occasion. Us lower income families tend to do that.
Also, whoever stole it can't take the custom rims off, because he doesn't have the device that releases them. The only way he's going to get them is if they shatter the entire tires, including the rims.
Sucker.
So, my little brother has made some Youtube videos about scooters.
I'm wondering; do any of you have any tips for him, so that he could make his videos better?
(He's currently filming his videos on a camera phone, but getting a better camera is a bit beyond him at the moment, so comments about that probably won't help.)
Anything would be appreciated, really, although it'd be cool if you could be as nice as possible about it, because he's only twelve and he gets upset if people are harsh about it.
(Also, he wants me to let you guys know that you should totally subscribe to his channel if you want to. You don't have to if you don't want to, but he would appreciate having more subscribers.)
(Also, any free video editing programs you know of would be appreciated, as he's using Youtube's video editor, which sucks.)
I know there's Windows Movie Maker, which can be put onto but doesn't natively exist on Windows 7. There's also a thing called VirtualDub, but that seems pretty complicated.
Nova, you should tell your brother that he's off to a good start. If he wants to improve, though, he might want to look at action sequences from good films to get a sense of how they edit things together more effectively. By all accounts, he seems to have a good idea of how to put it together, but he could also tighten things up.
One thing that jumps out at me is when he chooses to put in a new piece of footage. For instance, we could have two shots of the same location, but of a different trick.
What he's done is that he'll show us the scooter moving to the specific trick location and then it'll do the trick. Then, for the second shot, the same pattern repeats. Instead, what he could do is have the first shot show the movement towards the specific trick location and then the trick, but with the second shot edited so it skips almost directly to the trick. The first shot sets up the expectation of the movement to the trick location, while the second shot (which, under my suggestion, skips directly to the trick) breaks that expectation and makes it more exciting.
Kid's off to a good start, though. If he keeps practising his tricks and videos, he'll be pretty damn good before he's out of school.
