That show, it's infamy hurt yuri shows for me.
"but basically, there are objective qualities by which you can measure a work's quality, such as characterization, consistent and logical plot and whether it attains the implicit objectives it tries to work under, as well as the connection of all elements in the story to create a whole."
Consistent and logical plot, I have to grant, but doesn't it depend on the viewer to decide if a work's characterizartion and completion of objectives were well-executed? Interpretation is individualized and based on opinion. Personally, the only objective determinant of quality that I can think of at the moment is adherence to realism and fact according to the level of fantasy in the work - e.g. Dan Brown is objectively bad at presenting established real-world facts (or he deliberately misrepresents things, I wouldn't know), and apparent betrayal of the basic principles of physics in a work that's supposed to be realistic means objectively poor animation.
^^ Eh. It's biggest problems had nothing to do with it being a yuri show. Mostly that they tried to force lots of shounen shit into a series that didn't need it and with an author that couldn't write it. Thus half the show being devoted to awful mecha fights against a villain that doesn't actually matter.
I have no idea what that show is.
A subjective criterion would be which type of characters you like and dislike. But objectives are less nebulously defined: Do I want to present an aesop? If so, does it come acrosss competently? if not, what do I want to present?
^^ Kannazuki no Miko.
Hey guys, can you give me a song that is:
I just wanna hear something cool.
Satch Boogie, by Joe Satriani.
Or, well, anything by Joe Satriani, probably.
I've always associated Eggman with sweet guitar licks, actually. It's probably because of the Egg Emperor.
@DYRE: Looks kind of interesting, not sure if I'll ever get around to actually watching it.
@Eelektross: Animals as Leaders.
@vandro: It still depends on the viewer to decide whether or not the aesop came across competently; the author can't decide a viewer's reaction for them.
They can't decide it, but there are tried and true ways it can be done effectively.
That idea sounds pretty ebin Glenn
do it do it do it
Should I change mine so that it's harder?
hey, man you asked. I just said I disagreed with the idea.
It's a checks and balances thing, at the core of it all. Admittedly it gets complicated when you do something like Mass Effect vs Buffy or something, but I don't see such an argument or discussion as unfeasible or "impossible" as you put it.
Characterization is a bit of a mess, but I think it's all a matter of asking yourself if you really know who the character is by the time you finish the story. Not just his name and appereance, but the way he'd act in one situation or another as well as understanding their mentality.
The second one is a bit more subjective (And that's where things get messy in media discussion 101: Where subjectivity meets objectivity) but it's relatively easy to pick up the different elements of the story and measure up how they contribute to the theme as whole (Even if said theme is ambiguous)
Well, bear in mind that the subject was brought up specifically about Pokemon and Digimon, the former of which is primarily a videogame and the latter primarily an anime. As a result, one's trying to be an experience while the other is trying to be a narrative. If we were comparing two videogames or two anime, then it might be possible to call one better with a degree of objectivity, but in this case, I don't think it is.
This might just have my favourite guitar solo ever.
True, I suppose. Either way, I do admit that it's not like I can just recommend someone to watch, read or play this or that if it does not line up with their preferences and the fact that they are doing very dissimilar things while having a rather similar dressing does make it more of a preferences thing.
But the main reason why I'm saying this is because I know shit about Digimon and Pokemon (And I most definetly intend to keep it that way)
Hi there, Eelektross!
Do me next!
