  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

At least if the world ends, we'll know it ended with humanity's greatest achievement accomplished.

  • "we'll know it ended with humanity's greatest achievement accomplished."

Being able to rub your belly and pat your head at the same time?

  • Definitely not gay.

IJBM: Everyone spells my name as "Elektross".

  • You can change. You can.

    >greatest achievement accomplished

    >not plan nine from outer space

come on, have you even tried being that awful

i tell ya, it's an accomplishment.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

    College application - SENT.

  • You can change. You can.

    hooray.

    sending mine tomorrow, hopefully.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

Man I should go back to school.

Maybe get a degree that isn't completely useless.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

So, people may remember me being all excited on the Kickstarter thread about the upcoming card game Serpent's Tongue. Well, the first bit of the printable playtest for backers just went up. The cards themselves aren't out yet, but the rules and codex (spellbook you use to store your cards) are. I'll probably make a thread to post my opinions of the game as I test it, but just thought I'd mention it for now.

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

So, I was just reading some Film Critic Hulk, and in the middle of this article, I realized that this is the same thing that causes problems when people view TV Tropes as more than a fun little categorization toy.

Also, lowercase letters look weird now.

  • You can change. You can.

It's funny how humanity seems to always look for the easy way of doing things. Especially when it comes to storytelling and the abuse of formulas like the monomyth.

also, i'd really like to try serpent's tongue. i've been getting jaded of magic lately (might just be the fact that i don't get to play great games these days but boring cockatrice idiots. And then zudak and haven, who are cool but don't satisfy my hankering of multiplayer) but i'm not so sure how good it'll be, really. especially considering that it doesn't seem to recognize some of the important yet sad truths about TCGs (Namely rarity levels and the need for "bad" cards)

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

It's funny how humanity seems to always look for the easy way of doing things. Especially when it comes to storytelling and the abuse of formulas like the monomyth.

Part of it is that any good story can be made to look like it fits a given structure (monomyth, three-act, etc.), so when the structure is described to someone, it often comes with examples of good stories that "follow" that structure, which makes people think that stories structured like that are automatically good.

    rarity levels

That is a problem, and it's still present, but it actually does some stuff to combat this. Each booster pack contains a code that can be redeemed for 1-9 "Avak-Shar" points. And every card can be ordered on the website, at the cost of 1-9 Avak-Shar, the rarest costing 9. So there won't ever be a situation where you have to buy dozens of packs just to get that one card. If you're really unlucky, it'll take 9, and I think the average is meant to be around 2.5 packs to get 9 points.

  • You can change. You can.

See, why not just make it so you buy single cards according to your needs like Wizards does with Magic?

    OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

    That's...a good point. Idunno.

Another thing they do to combat the gulf in power between cards is making more powerful cards actually harder to use. Now, saying a longer phrase may not sound much harder, but there's a timer you're working against, which adds pressure, and apparently the people who made the language can't always consistently get the level 3 spells, so there's that.

And there's a system in place where your codex has a point value assigned to it according to the power of your incantations, and if yours is really high-level, then if you're up against a weaker opponent, the rules recommend going up against a team that outnumbers you to balance it out. This will probably come into play somehow in tournaments.

So that means the while you could make your deck consist entirely of the best cards out there, it's actually probably a bad idea.

  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!

I wish people would stop using the monomyth as a straight build and just realize it's where their story will inevitably go.

Yes, I know Star Wars did it. Shut up.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!

I know Star Wars did it.

The article does a good job of covering how Star Wars tends to play with aspects of the monomyth, like how Yoda is introduced as a crazy little animal, or how Luke refuses the call for all of thirty seconds.

  • You can change. You can.

INUH: See, the thing is, rarity shouldn't mean power. Rarity should mean uniqueness.

For example, in MtG, this card is a rare (highest rarity at the time before of the introduction of Mythic Rare-ness) and it's really a card that doesn't win games on its own. (I don't think you need to play Magic to understand why it's not that good, really)

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    That's true.

Though we don't actually know yet if rarity and power will be related at all, afaik. We'll find out when it's out.
  • You can change. You can.

Man, thinking about it, it always weirds me out that superheroes only spend time together fighting things considering that superteams are often formed by strong friendships. like, you never see iron man and cap sitting and watching hogan's heroes

i consider this a sin of the most heinous kind

  • "I will grant you two wishes; one for each testicle."

    So I walk into IJBM.

And two of the first Page threads are Random Erections and Cleavage.

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^ welcome to hell
  • I thought we were above that.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

    ^Not by much, admittedly.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

Meh. For what it's worth, the Erections thread is mostly people making jokes at Eelektross's expense at the moment, since he told us about something we really didn't need to know about.

  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    Again.
  • It suprises me no-one has made a Bowel Movements thread yet, to be honest.

Anyhow, extended weekend summary: our frat won the interfrat debate competition which I helped organize, a gal named Isabella Zwaan showed up at the drug research centre so my intake was pretty amusing at her expense, got guestlisted for an awesome Goodluck gig, saw some old bros I haven't seen for long at a friend's birthday, had a BBQ with the Holland-Denmark running in the background, dropped by an International Short Film Festival with a cute dudette(this short was the funniest-if only because it's the only one I can find online: ), level wall paintings are coming along for the Mario-themed end-of-year party, and had a brodette over for dinner to update me on all the gossip doing the rounds.

    'T was a good weekend.

  • So at noon a company called (at the time apparently out of nowhere) about doing an internship test and form less than three hours later. Not the most comfortable way to know it, but it's a large company and the place looked quite nice and orderly.

Also, on the foreign languages section, besides English and "other" there was German. Fine, world, I'll get around to learn it.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

Went to TVGuide channel and saw that Toddlers and Tiaras was on, so I wanted to see just how bad it was.

Couldn't make it through a minute of that crap. Why is that allowed on television?

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Why is Jersey Shore allowed on television?

  • Has friends besides tanks now

Good question At least Jersey Shore doesn't involve child abuse, as far as I know.

Jersey Shore is dumb, but it's not hurting kids the way T&T is.

    damn you everest
