  • Obsidian,  games with great writing, great dialogue but fucking buggy as shit :/

Pretty much, Though Alpha Protocol wasn't as buggy as I thought it would be.

Anyway, they're usually pretty good about patching problems.

  • Speaking of writing and games, I played the trial of Bastion yesterday after feeling like an indiefag after trying to play Fez (though since I didn't think it was the best and most artistic video game ever I guess I'm not indie enough).  Holy shit that was the worst thing ever.  It's like... the developers heard people talking about how stories in games are communicated by the gameplay and not solely by cutscenes and the like... and then decided to make a game that completely disregards that in favor of having someone narrate everything you do in the game, as if somehow storytelling isn't legitimate unless you present it in a way that resembles prose.  The fact that the actual gameplay was just a mediocre Gauntlet-like didn't really help things either.

We have reviewed your resume' and we find you delicious.

Alex: I use two-handers, and I find that shouts make an effective defense. It's less about defending/evading an opponent's attacks and more about keeping them from attacking period when using the two-handed weapons.

But your reasons for not liking it are valid, and I definitely see your point. I think it's mostly a matter of how we enjoy playing.

    Crake: but

if the world is the box

    and i smash it

    i'd be destroying the world

  • Nah, you'll just be revolutionizing the world.

    Or something.

"you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

I play an archer, the only problem I have is that arrows don't always fly like I want them to. But then, arrows flying like I want them to is the very idea of archery.

  • Birthday is getting a boring start right now, hopefully that will change.

Being 21 doesn't feel any different at all. Except now I can legally drink.

    Happy birthday!

But yeah, birthday being just another day happens at one point or another.

  • I'm a damn twisted person

Nope. Lai, it's time for you to accept that from now on your own birthday will solely be an excuse for you to eat some cake.

  • if u do convins fashist akwaint hiz faec w pavment neway jus 2 b sur

    Happy birthday!

I always found it stupid how the drinking age in the US is as high as 21. I mean, at 18 you are legally able to fight in a goddamn war but not drink a single beer. It's dumb.

  • Has friends besides tanks now

    Happy birthday, Lai!

  • @Crake: I can live with that.

    And thanks guys.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

Happy birthday, Lai. If all goes well, you'll have your first proper hangover tomorrow morning.

    Joinin' in with the wishes.
  • No thanks, Alex. I'm trying to avoid the hangovers. I don't really feel compelled to drink alcohol. [/Boring]
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.

    lemme put it this way

you can either drink yourself into a hangover

or i can write a ten paragraph essay on why you should drink yourself into a hangover

  • You can write that essay. I just won't read it. :p
  • a little muffled

    @Juan:

    am i not enough :<

    > 1v1 EDH

  • But you never had any to begin with.

Though Alpha Protocol wasn't as buggy as I thought it would be.

The same Alpha Protocol where saving and loading in one of the first missions makes all the enemies in that mission disappear? That Alpha Protocol?

By Obsidian standards, no, that's not that bad.

  • You can change. You can.

    > 1v1 EDH

    i do it with haven

    it's funner than you'd think

  • a little muffled

    i do it with haven

    Well that explains some things.

  • Kichigai birthday!!

So I was on /v/ the other day and saw this posted. It's a forum thread where the OP asks what game system should he get next. The cool part is that the thread was made in 1989 and the game systems up to debate are the NES and the Sega Genesis Megadrive

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

I feel it really isolating I prefer Fallout 3 to New Vegas, New Vegas might have a more complex plotline, but I much prefer the denizens of the Capital Wasteland.

    Wut, you drunk man?

The difference that I have found is like comparing Fallout and Fallout 2

This is a very interesting read. Thanks for that.

  • He who laments and can't let go of the past is forever doomed to solitude.

Whale, can you expand on the thought? And you can always assume I am sober, I despise alcohol and shit.

Well, Fallout had a basic karma system and the main quest was to find a water chip for the vault. The quests were self contained into an area and there wasn't any breadcrumb quests to new areas except from the main quest. Also what happened in one place tended to stay there

Fallout 2 had both a Karma system and Rep system, and the Rep System took precedent over what your karma rating was. Quests in Fallout 2 tended to a mixture of both self contained and breadcrumbed. The main quest of stopping the Enclave didn't appear straight away so you had to play the game to figure that out.

Fallout 3 is essentially fallout in 3D and has the same main quest which is annoying

New Vegas has the same design as Fallout 2

Haven't played either of the first two. But thanks for the explanation.
