Because I'm currently getting The Animated Series (apparently that is the official title) and I doubt anything else will honestly stack up to that.
And yes, I am Australian, so I am part of a melting pot nation. I don't think that matters, though -- via familial transmission, I still acquired Austrian culinary data (and that's a sentence I never foresaw myself writing). So it becomes a point of personal identification -- we cook the same. It seems like a little thing, but ethnicity isn't that much of a major thing anyway.
I do see how many people from colonial nations would deny the concept of ethnicity, though. It does make it easy to forget. I'm glad I investigated my own background, though, because the identification I gained has helped me understand to some degree the feelings of other ethnicities. It's not nearly the same thing as minorities go through, not by a long shot, but when the culture you identify with is depicted in certain predictable patterns, it does grate. Mostly the Nazi thing. But that's a whole other kettle of familial fish.
>dat feel when I start watching Utawarerumono
>dat feel when Eluluu and Aruruu are the only good things about the show so far
>dat feel when I'm only saying that cuz one's a moeblob with animal ears and a tail, and the other's her adorable little sister
@ Nova: don't worry, that wasn't directed at him. Neither at you, by the way. It's just the 'States who are the big guy on the block.
But not one with a habit of dropping bombs on people!
Edited for further clarification.
Naw, just the more well-regarded one that sits back and profits from all the bomb-dropping.
A friend of mine, ex-SAS, had some disturbing things to say about Australia's place in global conflict. Obviously, he wasn't allowed to give me any details. Consider that the Australian SAS is one of the finest military institutions in the world and that we're a uniquely Western presence in Asia Pacific and you might begin piecing it together.

Which makes me think, what did the Romans think. Were they surprised when faced with these kinds of opposition, or just went "yeah, we're evil imperialist pigdogs, now deal with it". Probably surprised too, given that case when they couldn't wrap their heads around the idea that Jews prefer their Temple's inner sanctum empty, even when they can get a completely free statue of the Emperor to put in there.

That's because it's not trying to stack up to it. It's doing its own thing.
As long as I haven't blown anyone up today, I'm fine.
They probably thought they were bringing light and justice to the world.
Ironic, given how many of their enemies went on to flourish as they rotted away.
Got a cheap smirk out of this.
There's some doubled level of irony when you consider that many of these enemies turned into Rome's fanboys some time later.
^^ i love how she's so passive-aggressive about it
^^ Yeah, it's like self-loathing on a continental scale.
For those who are curious, have the changes in policies back in January worked?
nope
...Wut?
what
The only reason I can study engineering is because I have easily affordable education.
ARGH
There's a fish wrapped in purple paper talking on the previous page.
I really want to slap him upside the head hard enough to reset that switch
IJAM: How smoothly Winamp does a transition between certain songs.
"My dad opposes free post secondary education based on how engineers and the like can apparently pay off their debts within a year or two"
Aside from the obvious fact of his naivete, I hate the stereotype of engineers being the "career" degree, implying either that it's the only worthwhile degree or that it's all that people taking the degree care about.
It's the only worthy degree! All others are mere pretenders!
ahahaha, oh wow, my humanities major laughs in the face of your petty "numbers" and "equation"
> implying engineers know anything about numbers and equations
Abyss: He also thinks IQ is the only way to measure intelligence, so it's understandable why he thinks things like engineering degrees are so important and others... less so
