Why, what's wrong with it?
Nothing, I'm joking around.
>Having friends
>Not stealing corpses from a graveyard and bringing them back to life so you can have someone to play with
shut up, i had a complicated childhood
Apparently I talk like I'm internet in the flesh. Not sure whether this is bad or worse.
>Necromancy.
>Not using sheep blood.
HAW.

bluh
Mhhhmmmm-hmmmmm...
So there is an issue on the OTC. I rarely post in the OTC these days, probably as a fallout of this whole Goon mess. So I wanted to discuss it in here, start a thread on it, and use the phrase "fashionable lefty bullshit" or some such in its description in the OP. And then I realised, I do not care enough to bother. I did not bother before, too (by the time the Goons had their fun I was mostly dropping occasional borderline-trollage, which by the way they took seriously, Einstein's secret offspring as they are). And all those people who thought I think like them, thought that because I didn't share my views often. And the possibly funniest part is that I likely have views generally acceptable to these people (but then, who knows?), but the Internet's GIFT effect sharpens them into a generally hawkish shape.
Apparently Pikachu is what criminals fear
I've said this before, but as a leftist, I'm really disappointed in the conduct and aggression of other leftists. These philosophies will never get moving on a wider scale if passionate idiots keep expressing their views in a way that encourages social shaming and judgement rather than open dialogue and convincing points. While the current state of economy and the shrinking of human rights is causing a resurgence in leftist philosophies among many, it does little if so many cannot express their views calmly, politely and convincingly.
No-one is going to react well to being told they're wrong, racist, sexism or whateverist without explanation and certainly not using those terms. Finding something "offensive" is no excuse to throw a hissy fit and damage good philosophies with one's conduct.
^^
"I am the Pokemon that Kanto deserves."
The issue I spoke of, if you're drinking to that, was that someone said there that ethnicity is a social construct. I somewhat disagree.
^^ dat 404
well shit
^^Um...there wasn't a Tsunami and nobody was hurt.
No, but there was a very strong earthquake just off the continent I live in. Again.
And this-
Which, if I understand it correctly, is bad.
No, I was hearing this because my cousin's husband works in Indonesia, and apparently lateral quakes are the least damaging kind there is.
Strictly speaking, that's correct from a genealogical point of view.
On the other hand, it's a construct that exists for a reason. Ethnicity is one historical means of identifying with a society, although it's losing traction in today's globalised world because the capacity for people to move about geographically at such speed and convenience takes a lot of its relevance away.
Ethnicity really comes down to how we view ourselves, others and our respective histories. While there are obviously modern behaviours that go along with it, most obviously discrimination against minorities, its most continuous function throughout the ages has been to provide a means for people to place themselves in relation to others, and this isn't always a negative thing.
For instance, I'm of Austrian ancestry (among others). I also cook an awesome schnitzel, Vienna style. "I can cook an awesome Vienna schnitzel because I'm of Austrian ancestry" is a stupid phrase, but the data that makes that dish possible has been transmitted via generations and therefore explains why I can do this, despite not putting much effort into cooking, when most other white people I know cannot, as well as most people of other colours, races and ethnicities. It's simply something that has been transmitted down the family line and is repeated on a regular basis, so when it times come for me to cook, I whip out the veal and start hammering 'cause that's what I know.
(I and a Greek friend from a Greek family often argued good-naturedly about the proper way to do schnitzel back when we hung out. Never trust anyone who tells you that a schnitzel should be thick, because that's just crumbed meat. Especially bad in Australia, where the thick schnitzel is prominent. And I am still yet to find anyone who tops my Austrian grandfather's schnitzel. Anyone.)
So I essentially see ethnicity as the transmission of culture moreso than the transmission of genes, because genes can vary wildly within a population of the same ethnicity. But that ethnicity will have common cultural factors in common simply because globalisation hasn't yet eliminated the propensity for certain ethnicities to be more commonly born in certain locations. Besides, ethnicity is nebulous and the way it's seen has always changed with the context of the times -- some historical cultures never even recognised ethnicity as a concept.
I don't know if it's that it's less damaging, rather than it's not displacing water like other types of earthquakes do, so there's much less of a risk of a tsunami.
But there was a ten centimetre wave. weeeee
There have been eight people injured in ten shootings in the past ten days.
I fucking hate this country sometimes.
Why haven't you watched this show yet, IJBM?
Because I'm busy watching tiny moe girls get their heads bitten off.
I totally did a thing on my blog about Spider-Men, by Brian Michael Bendis.
So how I find it, Alex, is that I don't find what you wrote wrong. What I find wrong, well. So you've got Austrian ancestry. This does mean that you've got a certain cultural background your ancestors belonged to, not that some guys back in your family tree randomly decided they're gonna call themselves Austrians. Like, to say that you can just gather a bunch of random people and pull a Goebbels, that is to repeat some bullshit to them until they start believing in it (I'm referring to that quote about repeating a lie), and BAM, we have an ethnicity. Nationality, perhaps, yes, it's somewhat related to statehood and citizenship, but ethnicity? Hardly. Not in less than hundreds of years. And this kinda explains the problems with Kosovo and other shit like this, folks just cut up some faraway lands and act surprised when locals complain. Since the 'Net makes me slightly anti-American too, I'll say that I think it's easy to declare there is no such thing as an ethnicity when you live in a melting pot of immigration, your family has a dozen nations in four generations (though generally from the same cultural circle), and you just can't wrap your head around the idea why these Injuns and Niggas make such a fuss and those folks you drop bombs on won't just go home.
>Bendis
There's your problem right there.
More, Bendis the Puppet being strung by Quesada.
But Alex is Australian...?
