    I guess my train of thought in these situations goes like this:

    "Why would these guys target me in particular unless there was something wrong with me in particular?"

    It's pretty embarrassing to admit that, for a number of reasons, but there it is.

    I know where I did my master's degree, the school actually bought up local apartment buildings, and while it can't evict paying tenants, it gradually replaces them as they move out with graduate students.

    ^^^ Well, they still may you pay for housing, at around market rates.  $859/month for a furnished room.

    Good thing though is that you know you're dealing with the school directly, rather than some other landlord.

    20, and I still live with my parents because it's MUCH cheaper when you attend your local University rather than go to a new apartment or dorm, let alone a new city.
