@Stormtroper: is it true that you guys're running out of toilet paper? I haven't had to suffer this kind of shit personally, but my parents got a pack of the paper as a wedding gift, so I like to think I can relate. "Efficient system" my ass.

It's true. Bizarre, isn't it? Luckily at home we happened to have bought enough to last for a while.

Regardless, the scarcity problem got really bad really quickly, there are queues that go for multiple hours for markets throughout the whole country (except Caracas, gee) just to buy a few rationed products. There's also this creepy photo (those scribbles are their ticket numbers).

Besides importing everything like usual, the government is trying to fix this by sucking up to the private productive sector. Huh.

So, they say there's the risk of a social outburst, and apparently Maduro agrees, because he's spread militarymen throughout various cities and raised their pay...

I wish it was, I've got some cultural memory to fall upon. Sorry for playing it up all the time. It's just too similar to let it pass. Toilet paper. I wonder if the next thing's gonna be shops with nothing but vinegar. I can think of no meaningful advice that I could give, but, I do feel I can honestly say I feel for you.

Apparently the BBC fucked up and shipped the Series 7 Part 2 sets for Doctor Who early, which includes the finale

They promised a special short that would feature both the tenth and eleventh doctors if the internet behaves

Surprisingly, it seems to be working

  • There is love everywhere, I already know

That's because nobody actually cares what the answer to "Doctor Who?" is anymore. Seriously, tell me what "Mysterious Girl" is now.

Plus doesn't it air like... tomorrow anyways?

I didn't even know the BBC had their own distributing department. Though it's not like I know much about non-Japanese distro anyways.

  • It was BBC America that fucked up and I really hope they are thoroughly punished for it. Maybe if they spent less time fucking about on Tumblr and more time, gee, I dunno, running the American wing of the fucking BBC we wouldn't have this problem.

They've proven themselves utterly untrustworthy, and I worry it's going to go back to the old days of "Oh, you guys want Doctor Who? Well you'll have to wait a year".

Assuming this isn't a hoax, which I think it is.

  • "you duck spawn, refined creature, you try to be cynical, yokel, but all that comes out of it is that you're a dunce!!!!! you duck plug!"

    Just to finish:

    Why vinegar?

It's another political-historical reference. I dunno why it wasn't something other than vinegar, perhaps it's that vinegar isn't exactly a must-buy necessity, so it was the single product which was produced in sufficient amount for the needs of the buyers. Or it's something sillier. On a related note, tell me if your country ever suffers severe shortage of string, that was another legendary failure of that sort of economic system.

But you know - I don't know if it will cheer you up, but I'm gonna say I doubt things will be bad for longer than a couple of years. For one, the important things seem to be mostly still in place, just undermined here and there.

But you know - I don't know if it will cheer you up, but I'm gonna say I doubt things will be bad for longer than a couple of years. For one, the important things seem to be mostly still in place, just undermined here and there.

The thing is, oil prices are expected to go down during upcoming years, and PDVSA (the oil company I gushed about a while ago but now sucks) keeps deteriorating, all this while our dutch disease has been throughly exacerbated (over 95% of our exports are from oil, and as it stands now virtually all our businesses and industries need to import something and thus need dollars from said exports). Now, there are a million things a half-responsible administration could do to fix this, but that's what this one isn't, and the longer it takes for it to come down, the worse. This is why I'm getting increasingly impatient.

So, apparently our reserves are nearly depleted now since Chávez wasted much of it last (electoral) year on pretending our economy was fine. Now Maduro is having benefitors from Chávez' housing program pay for their homes (if able), which is what they said would happen if Capriles had won (in their defense, he did). I wonder how far he'll go with capitalism before people have had enough. This is more or less what happened a bit over 20 years ago (taking austerity measures because the previous government mismanaged, and stole, funds), leading up to revolts and Chávez' failed coup. This also makes yet another Chávez=Capriles connection, but hey.

Also, don't mind pointing out similarities in what's happening here and what happened there. I think it's interesting (and uplifting) that history has been repeating itself in many regards.

    Edit: "Mismanaged" is an understatement.

The recent NSFW thread has made me go back and examine the rules that we have on NSFW material.

I (and Naas) was thinking of changing the current rule to simply saying that NSFW links stay in NSFW-marked threads, and you don't have to mark the links themselves NSFW, because that would be redundant.  And simply bar NSFW links outside NSFW-marked threads.

So there's just one thing: marking threads NSFW.  NSFW threads are fair game for everything, threads not marked NSFW shall not have NSFW content.

What do y'all think of this simplification?

Edit: moved to its own thread here: http://itjustbugsme.com/forums/discussion/12040/simplifying-the-nsfw-rule/p1

  • I'd say keep the old rules. Plenty of times something NSFW is relevant to what should otherwise be an SFW thread(be it a news site with icky ads, a post in Updates that doesn't warrant its own thread but still is NSFW, etc.).

Suppose you run an anime convention, and suppose you want to publish the schedule for this convention online. Further suppose the schedule is nine pages long, and you've decided to publish it in PDF format. Now, how would you accomplish this?

    ...

If you answered "nine one-page PDFs", congratulations! You might just have what it takes to be Anime North's webmaster!

  • To be or not to be? That is the question.

    Yesterday's my birthday~

So, Diosdado Cabello, former lieutenant, higher-up among higher-ups (was thought to be the one to postulate as candidate in case Chávez died), and current president of the parliament (and responsible for all the stupid shit that has been going on over there). There was the half-joke rumor that he'd been doing said stupid shit on purpose to discredit Maduro so as to prepare a coup. According to the guy (Mario Silva, the Bill O'Reilly of chavism) he's been doing this kind of shit on purpose, indeed, to prepare a coup, and also sabotaged Maduro's campaign (and that there was this act with Chávez' face that would've made the birdie thing look sophisticated), that he's been financed through the currency exchange system the same way there's corruption throughout the entire governmental network and water is wet, that he's in control of various military personnel, and that they hacked the electoral (automatized) system to make Capriles lose by a small amount (rather than a large one).

As for the side Mario Silva is on (pro-Maduro, anti-Cabello), he said some stuff about "neutralizing" some guys, that they, indeed, have Cuban agents working on intelligence, as the right-wingers have been speculating for a long time, that they don't know why Maduro is Chávez' successor either and that he just kind of does what his lover Cilia Flores says, and that they would check the hacking stuff with the National Electoral Council's rectors, except the non-officialist one, of course.

That's all good and everything but I'm not sure it'll change that much. Good to know they're imploding, though.

Edit: Also, this was a report given to a Cuban G2. And Mario Silva is scared shitless of pot bangers.
