I've figured out my main problem with Libertarianism as the US understands it. It's so corporate-serving that it can hardly be called libertarian. I never understood why they are so adamantly opposed to government as a hierarchy yet so willingly support the capitalist hierarchy.

Because people have been recognizing the potential (not necessarily demonstrated, just potential) ability of the government to be stupid, but have not been recognizing the potential of the private sector to be similarly stupid.

Kindly remind them of the fact that the private sector is just as capable of being stupid and assholish, please. Thank you.

Also remind them that if the government is incompetent and lazy, the private sector is short-sighted and selfish.

Now if they think that simply getting rid of government will get rid of the problem, then you'll have to explain how society abhors a power vacuum, and if one entity doesn't rise to dominance, another will. So you can conclude that it's better to have one that acts in the public interest, even if incompetently (which we can tweak), than to have one that has no reason at all apart from looking nice to act in the public interest.

Oh, that stuff is well documented, but you'll have to dig for it for obvious reasons. Simply put, there's a reason why I consider the media the arch-enemy of the real world.

On a related note, that reminded me of a lovely bit of comedy. (for a while, I thought the term "miser" was named after Ludwig von Mises)

^^I don't know much about economics, so while I consider myself a socialist, I am willing to be pragmatic about it if, say, Keynesianism works. Obviously, I should learn more about economics, but it's the social side of socialism / anarchism I'm more interested in.

I do not know enough about the show to contribute, but up to a point, people were communicating until Malkavian started declaring the thread to be bullshit. Maybe not on that topic, but there was more than one topic.

I've been trying to avoid the sexism threads not made by me. Mostly because I have enough issues dealing with tv tropes anger. Don't need IJBM anger just yet.
