I have a Galaxy S III and the battery life pretty much stinks but from what I hear it's above average for Android phones. (Only smartphone I've ever had so it's hard for me to compare.)

^ My iPhone 3GS can last for several days if left unused, and for about two to three hours if used constantly
  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!

From what I've read, the HTC will last about 9 hours (while the Galaxy lasts about 8.5 hours) if you just use it for calls/text/few simple apps. I've gotten my HTC to last about 2.5 days without a charge if I didn't use it.

If you use it constantly the HTC will last about 6 hours vs. the Galaxy's 7.5 hours.

Basically, the Galaxy has lower total battery life but is more efficient when lots of stuff is running.

Guess Galaxy then. The total battery life is not so much shorter as to be a nuisance, and since I use my smartphone so often with a variety of apps, it may end up lasting longer anyways
  • But you never had any to begin with.

My old HTC Wildfire lasted a couple of days as long as I wasn't actively using it, and that's with the wifi connection active. Dunno about without it.

    Protips:

    1. When you want to get another Amazon Prime trial, create your own e-mail address.  Don't use an existing one.  ESPECIALLY if it's one that is an e-mail list.  DOUBLE-ESPECIALLY if it's an e-mail list with tons and tons of people on it.  TRIPLE-ESPECIALLY if it's an e-mail list of e-mail lists, for which people can't even get themselves in touch with the administrator by spamming the list.

    2. In the case that someone other than yourself DOES use an e-mail list to get an Amazon Prime trial, DO NOT, for the love of all things holy, proceed to troll the list by changing the password and causing Amazon to send a bunch of notifications to the list.

    3. DO NOT use said newly found Amazon account to buy about three grand's worth of junk, as a joke.

    4. If someone other than yourself does use an e-mail list of e-mail lists to get an Amazon Prime trial, and then another someone other than yourself does troll the list by changing the password and purchasing three grand's worth of junk, DO NOT, EVER, reply-all to ANY e-mail sent to that list, asking to be removed.

    5. EVER.

    6. When people explain to you how the list works, and why your request to be removed will fall on deaf ears, PLEASE LISTEN TO THEM, AND STOP ASKING TO BE REMOVED BY REPLYING-ALL.

    7. PLEASE.

    8. THANK YOU.

    a little muffled

I just set Gmail to auto-archive and mark as read all messages with "[Duck Soup]" in the subject.

Hopefully I remember to remove that filter in the case that I end up participating next year.

Man two of my profs in entirely different subjects mentioned Zeno's paradoxes in lecture today.

This seems much less interesting now that I've actually typed it out. Still, weird coincidence. Or...conspiracy???

On my brand new Galaxy. Jesus fuck is there s way to calibrate this thing!?
  • Man, Firefox has been puking its guts, I think it has to do with having updated the Adobe Flash thing. Bummer.

Also, I think working in a "formal" working environment has gotten me used to not working (or studying) at all outside of it.

    So, plans for this year?

RE: Phones: I have an HTC Sensation 4G and it's decent, I guess. I wish I could figure out the odd glitches on mine (seems to reboot at purely random times, I keep getting notifications telling me to make room on the SIM card when there's nothing to remove, though it's probably because the SIM was likely swapped in from my last phone).

Wow transferring music is painful (simple drag and drop doesn't allow for playlists)

One of the reasons I hang around the TVTropes crowd, honestly.

Though I've picked up various rapforumisms like "tbh".

^^ And? How did it go?
  • edited 2013-02-01 03:38:41

It went okay. Mum was really accepting, and seems to be okay with the idea of my girlfriend coming over in the summer. She is discussing it with dad at the weekend.

@Nyktos: the spamfest has been over for almost a day now.  And UE got the spamfilters actually working; I formatted the regex wrong when I first did it.

Anyhow, we're just solving an online non-competitive puzzlehunt right now, the Puzzle Boat.  And we might do some competitive (read: time-limited) hunts a few times during the year, aside from Mystery Hunt.

@Tools: Good to hear that at least your mom is accepting.
