Spurdo :DDD and name SPARTA :DDDDD
That damn Scrafty is going to work off his debt of killing my Zoroark (How the fuck can they jump kick...?)
I got back into the swing of Borderlands, but I think I've hit that point again where I'm somewhat under-leveled and most of the gear in my backpack is unusable due to it being a level higher than me.
The guns I currently have still wreck face, though.

For some reason I find this spelling extremely amusing.
Okay. Just swept through Elesa's gym with Alkthash, my Level 25 Musharna.
Musharna is, basically, my best defensive Pokemon. At Level 29 currently, Musharna has 112 HP, compared with Smuggy, my Level 28 Servine, who was 74, or Weepy, my Level 27 Simipour who has 83.
Musharna has 73 Special Attack, 73 Special Defence, and a respectable 57 Defence. His Attack is lacklustre at 43, but he's a Special Attacker, so that's fine.
The trade-off is in Speed- at Level 29, Musharna has only 22 Speed. However, Musharna is tough enough to soak up any attack people throw at it, and follow up with a very heavy hitting Psybeam. Hypnosis gives Musharna some breathing room to use Moonlight, which restores around half of his HP, enabling him to go another couple of rounds- and it's likely that Hypnosis also gives Musharna enough free attacks to KO the Pokemon.
Musharna was tough enough at Level 27 to soak up Elesa's Volt Switches and only take 15 damage, and Zenstrika's Sparks while only taking 30 damage. He 2HKO'd all of Elesa's Pokemon, and I only had to heal him once.
Basically, this is an example of what I was talking to Eelektross about. Using an offensive Pokemon in Elesa's Gym is very risky, because of Emolga's dual typing of Electric and Flying giving you few distinct advantages, and many disadvantages, and Zebstrika being so damn tough. Emolga will likely outspeed whatever Pokemon you bring along unless you're at least ten levels ahead, and it hits hard enough to count and knows Volt Switch.
However, a defensive Pokemon just laughs at them.
^ ...I just used Maractus and a ground type against her on my Nuzlocke run
The hell would you do that?'
Emolga knows Aerial Ace and likes to abuse it.
^ Hence the ground type to soak up damage
Seriously, my Pokemon wiped the floor with her. No casualties at all
And yet, Aerial Ace is super-effective against ground-types.
Yeah, you won, but that could have gone very, very badly, man.
Plus, ground-type attacks don't even hit Emolga, and grass-type attacks deal only half damage!
Ok, checking through my logs for that battle...
Maractus was used during the gym. Just not against Elesa. My Krokorok was too busy one shotting everything with Crunch
Wait, what?
Aerial Ace is NOT super effective against ground types
Yeah- wait, no? what
... This doesn't make any sense.
Man, and all this time, I've been using Flying-types on Ground-type Pokemon. The hell have I been doing?
So why the hell isn't Flying super-effective against Ground?
^ Because you're using things like flapping wings against the embodiment of the ground
It's just normally effective, as ground is completely ineffective against flying.
Because I'm cutting people with razors made of solid air I think you mean.
^ If normal types are hit neutrally by it, then ground should be too
That doesn't even make sense. With an explanation like that, it's a miracle that flying-type attacks do anything at all.
It's a matter of focused energy, I think. Remember, when you're struck by an object, it's not the object itself that's dealing an injury -- it's the energy that object can carry. Flying-type attacks can be presumed to focus energy without a base object. I'm sure we've all stood in a heavy wind that physically limited us; imagine that energy being focused into a much narrower stream, essentially being a weaponised form of compressed air.
By that logic, Fire should be super-effective against Normal too, or else Grass shouldn't, 'coz both things burn.
Man, one of the most powerful attacks in the game involves shooting a beam of solid Normal power out of your mouth. Leering at your opponents makes them less tough, you can throw seeds at your opponent to regain health, shooting razor-sharp leaves out of your back is a totally legitimate Grass-type move, and Dig can be used while you're sailing across the ocean.
Explanations like that are not unusual in this game.
^ Except air is just as effective on normal people as it is on the earth. Grass is known to burn though. Normal is the baseline type, essentially
...Still no idea why fighting is weak to flying, however
Ever tried to punch a corvid?
Basically, most martial arts have no solutions for bird attacks.
And to think I bumped the Pokemon thread for stuff like this. :P
Not that I really mind.
And one of the oddest problems with Pokémon is the fact that flying-type is never the first type, and is paired with normal when you'd expect to see just a single type elsewhere.
In act, normal is only ever paired with flying.
