  • Okay.

    Dat posture.

You know, I'd think at some point you guys would get sick of my pony bullshit.

Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    Magic Knight Rayearth.

...okay, the only reason I'm recommending that is because that's the only manga I've read.

    Wait, it isn't.

I've also read the Metroid manga.  It's nice.

^ I've been sick of pony bullshit for a while now; I just haven't given enough of a shit to make a point of it.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
One can never get sick of ponies, Gelzo.
  • I'll just count it as trolling so I feel less nervous about inadvertently annoying people.
  • You can change. You can.

Okay, the OP wants a hyperviolent manga...

Maybe I just missed it, but it seems odd that nobody mentioned Fist of the North Star yet.
  • @DonZabu:  Nope.  Only Clannad characters who matter are Fuuko and Tomoyo.  And Nagisa's mom and dad.
  • My favorite manga is Fullmetal Alchemist.
  • Nagisa's parents are lolis?
  • edited 2011-06-04 20:29:15
    Tomoyo isn't even a loli...

    And Fuuko only sorta is.
  • a little muffled
My favourite manga is Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, though it's one of only two that I've read more than a volume of. It's not what the OP is looking for, though (and neither is Fullmetal Alchemist).
  • ...A lolicon... liking characters that aren't lolis? I, wait, a, I, wha...

#1. Get that pony shite offa mah thread!

#2. There was a manga of Magic Knight Rayearth?  .... <_<  ... >_> ...  No, I didn't just imply I was a fan.  *Tucks away his import copy of the Saturn MKR game*

#3. Fist of the North Star.... yeah, that would be obvious...  but I've had this weird thing about Fist of the North Star for a while now, ever since that argument I had with someone regarding whether Kenshiro or Kujo Jotaro would win in a battle. Now I can't even look at Kenshiro without spitefully imagining Jotaro's Star Platinum beating the crap out of him.

    #4.
My favourite manga is Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, though it's one of only two that I've read more than a volume of. It's not what the OP is looking for, though
GIVE ME NAUSICAA! GIMME GIMME GIMME! WHEREIS?!
(Explanation: The Will of the Ancients cited that manga as one of the main inspirations behind the Panzer Dragoon games... which I worship with a near psychopathic zeal)
  • Has friends besides tanks now
If we're getting into stuff beyond what SotiCoto asked for specifically, I will recommend One Piece.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Hey, I like MKR unironically.  It really is a nice story.

There are six volumes of manga, three corresponding to each season of the animé.  The SNES RPG is a retelling of the first animé season, and I think the Saturn RPG is an even more faithful retelling of the first animé season.  The first GBC game is a side story; dunno about the second.
  • I was considering reading Magic Knight Rayearth.

Mostly because Cardcaptor Sakura is good, and so I figured I'd read other CLAMP manga.

Or... watch the anime based on the manga, whatever.

    RE-ANIMATOR
Funny thing about MKR:   I thought the plotline in the Saturn game was quite a bit superior to the Anime...  It struck me as a bit weird really. The way the Saturn plot played out though didn't really leave room for the Season 2 story, as most of the supporting characters died. The SNES game had no plot to speak of whatsoever near as I could tell.
Oh, and I used to be totally obsessed with the Season 2 intro music for some retarded reason. Liked the first season music, but the second was right nifty.....
Wait... wait a sec though. The original manga didn't have Inouva in, now I think about it. He was my favourite character!  I'm kinda torn now... =/

..... Yeah ok, so I like some things that aren't ultraviolent too.   I mostly liked MKR because I sympathised with Emeraude's plight...  >_>  ... Probably ought to find a way to summon folks from another universe to kill me too.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
The SNES game totally had plot.

It just wasn't the same plot as either the animé's or manga's.  But it also illustrated Fuu's point well that their story is kinda like that of a JRPG.

I haven't played the Saturn game so I have little information on that.

Which season 2 intro?  There are two; only the second was used in the dub version.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
Also, the SNES game has REALLY AWESOME BOSS BATTLE THEME.

I don't watch dubs. Subtitles or nothing.
    THIS music:

And if I can dig up my copy of the Saturn game, I could probably rip you an ISO .... well, if I remember how.  It is an Action-RPG... The gameplay mechanics are rather simple, but the plot is SO much better.... Totally worthwhile.
  • Alright... fuck it.
As well as ULTRAVIOLENT manga....   I also declare open season on fantasy shoujo manga...  *Hides face in shame*

OH.... and on a slight tangent...
@gmh ....  You want the most epic boss-battle music of the 16 bit generation?
The Leviathan battle from Crusader of Centy (a.k.a. Soleil)...  So awesome (if you listen all the way through) that I wanted to form a band just to do a metal cover of it for several years.

  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Oh my God. Someone else whose played Crusader of Centy. My life is complete!

Call me a heretic, but I didn't really like Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It was needlessly wordy, almost like reading an American comic at times, and the plot went in some totally bullshit directions IIRC.

But I'm gonna throw out Ranma 1/2. Everyone needs to read that manga. EVERYONE.
  • I ownzed Crusader of Centy.  Completed it over 10 times.  Maxed health every time except my min-health playthrough.  Found every awkward and awesome way of killing things. Ran about the most of the game with triple-boosted cheetah speed and no brakes. <3  I was practically married to that game.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Bleh, Ranma 1/2 has been utterly ruined for me.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Ruined how? Don't tell me it was over some petty online feud...

(...or just because I recommended it...)
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Yes, it's ALL YOUR FAULT, FEEL BAD

    Nah, I'm mostly hyperbolizing anyway.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    @SotiCoto:

Re subs vs. dubs: Oh, I much prefer English dubs to subs when they are of roughly equivalent quality; I feel immersion is far easier.  Though one hobby I have is to watch dubs with the direct-translation subs going at the same time.

Re MKR theme: That's the final OP.  The second OP is "Kirai ni Narenai".

I get dubs for one reason and one reason only: to bypass Engrish. The less exposure I have to that, the less at risk I am for a myocardial infarction.
