I usually watch dubs of shows unless a)The dub is godawful (like Higurashi) or B)there is no dub yet (like Madoka).

It's not always that official subs are a direct translation.  Often it's just that subs have to be shorter than the equivalent line in the dub because they need to give you time to read the whole thing.

Also I generally only watch dubs if I accidentally download a dual-audio release and I'm too lazy to change it to Japanese.  Or if it's Gundam, even though Gundam dubs often suck.

    RE-ANIMATOR
^^^^ Weird... I've never heard that one.  o_0;; ... And it is really lame compared to the other two.

Yeah, let's not have Chagen jump in and call me a weeaboo for preferring the subs on like one show.  It got old after the first time.
  • I think who and who isn't a weeaboo in this thread is a bit of a moot point.

    a little muffled
@SotiCoto: It shouldn't be hard to find the Nausicaä manga on your illegal download site of choice. It's not really an action series, though; there are a few pretty good action scenes but they're not at all the focus of the thing. (There is at least one completely gratuitous scene of Kushana hacking up a bunch of people with a sword, though.)
  • My interest in that isn't for the action as previously noted.
I've seen the anime adaptation already.
I'm just after knowing what was going through Team Andromeda's mind when they were making Panzer Dragoon. <3
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
It's translated from a German comic in some magazine Hasbro distributed.

Wait... I thought there is no My Little Pony in Germany (anymore).
  • a little muffled
@SotiCoto: The manga is better than the movie imo, if only for Kushana (who was a rather one-dimensional villain in the movie rather than being a complex and awesome antihero in the manga).
  • Ultraviolence and manliness?

    *Gantz

    *Claymore

    *Full Metal Alchemist

    *Gundam Sousei

    *GANTZ

    Fantasy Shoujo?

    *Rose of Versailles

    Ultraviolence
    *Full Metal Alchemist
    ???
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorite anime, but I wouldn't call it ultraviolence.

    CRIMINAL SCUM!
It is pretty violent. Not as violent as Gantz or claymore.

Also. He asked for manliness. And FMA is very manly. It's AuthorAppeal.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
I'm a fair way into FMA. It's fairly violent, but... Not exactly to Author Appeal levels.
  • You can change. You can.
    Manly? FMA?

    ...

I think I've just heard the greatest joke ever. Anyway, I won't recommend anything but Western comics, if what you want is a bit of the good ol' ultra violence /Clock work orange.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Fullmetal Alchemist is the MOST manly.

I can't really judge if it's manly or not, but it's not testosterone-fueled.

^ I was JUST about to screenshot him.
  • You can change. You can.
What I meant by that it's simply that it doesn't fit the cliches that you and I would call manly, like Gurren Lagann and whatnot.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    ^^ Bwahahaha
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Gurren Lagann is only manly because of the first few episodes. Everything after that runs like a normal robot show.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
I really only classify 'manly' as over-the-top testosterone rage.

Anything else is classified by genre, really.

    FMA is seinen.

    Also awesome.

The reason I say that is because intense action driven power and pure fate-breaking determination are not man-only traits, if Gun Buster and PSG have anything to say about it.

I really only classify 'manly' as over-the-top testosterone rage.

I call manly whatever panders to stereotypical male fantasies, like the Magnificent Seven (Gather a crew of friends, do justice, be quick and do it with style) and Batman (Get revenge on the people who have wronged you via training your whole life and with nothing but your wits and brains in a world that hates you)

I know this fantasies are not only had by females, but they are stereotypically male. And I actually enjoy these kind of works and I don't think that's bad.

^^ It's not the fact that it has action, but the focus on the male characters as well as the use of beloved male archetypes what makes a show "manly", so to speak.

  • Cygan. TestosteronePoisoning is not the same as RatedMForManly.

    No, it isn't.

    FMA is seinen.

It ran in Monthly Shōnen Gangan.

    EDIT: Ninja'd.
