Recommend any good manga?

I've really got to stop ticking the "smut" tickbox on MangaFox's search.  "Virgin na Kankei" is really starting to stretch the limits of believability... Blithering idiot protagonists annoy me at the best of times... all the moreso when women just fall into their laps constantly.... most-so when they have porn-style sex with pretty much all of them  (and of course all the women whine and cry and totally get their shame on)....  It is just starting to piss me off.

I need proper manly manga now. Where men are men, women are also men, and everybody is likely to be dead by the end... of Chuck Norris Grade Ultraviolence.
RECOMMEND!

I don't think I'll be of much help, but out of curiosity, what have you read already that meets that description?
  • Not sure anything I've read fits it really... I just like to exaggerate for effect.
It isn't like I'm expecting to ever find anything in my lifetime that beats Jojo's Bizarre Adventure...   but... hmm.... I haven't checked if Mangafox has the Gantz manga... That'd be a start (I <3 the Gantz anime). But still... I just want manga recommendations...  preferably violent ones.
  • I don't read much manga, but from what I've seen, Yotsuba& is my favorite. Of course, it's about as manly as My Little Pony.

If you want gritty and violent, Berserk is a go-to. I haven't read it, but it's one of those classics in the realm of dark, violent anime.

I, personally, would recommend Ubel Blatt as well. I haven't read all of it, but I remember it being a decent read.

And what sorts of things really grind your gears in anime/media in general? I hesitate to recommend a certain fighting series that's one of my all-time favorites because it's not to everyone's tastes.

^ Yotsuba&! is pretty good, but it's not a main-feature series, to me. It's the sort of thing that I read when I want a break from the more intense, plot-driven series that I happen to be watching.

Oddly enough, I didn't have this same feeling reading Azumanga Daioh, which is another good one, and heck, it's even slightly edgier than Yotsuba&!, but it's still about as manly as MLP.

I reccomend anything by Junji Ito (Gyo and Uzumaki being the most highly ranked), and Tsutomu Nihei's Blame! and Biomega are pretty heavy on the ultraviolence as well.

    ^^Seconding Franken Fran.

Oh yeah, Franken Fran. I recommend that one as well. Not half as scary/creepy as most people (or at least, most tropers) say it is, but it's a worthy choice.

And you might like Black Lagoon, too.
  • ^Its pretty obvious most Tropers (at least the ones who post on the Nightmare Fuel pages) are grade A pansies.

    Things that grind my gears?

    Violence.
    Ultraviolence.
    REALLY creative violence...
And lots of death, of course... as the reward for the violence.

I mean there are tons of manga about the protagonist guy trying to find the main antagonist guy, and fighting loads of other unique guys along the way... and trying to find different creative ways of utilising his special skills to turn them into a gorestain on the ground.
I tend to prefer the ones of those that are REALLY gory and REALLY creative... <3  ... This is why I pretty much consider Jojo's Bizarre Adventure to be the bee's knees... so to speak.

[Edit]: I've read Franken Fran.  That cracks me up! ^_^      ... I've got the anime of Black Lagoon too. Could give a look for the manga...   And for the record, I've already read Elfen Lied <3
  • Dude, most tropers are scared shitless by their own shadows. Just sayin'. #sadbuttrue
  • ^^Biomega and Blame are pretty consistently violent, if you can stomach Biomega's incoherence and Blame's extreme slowness.

"Grinds your gears" is supposed to be a bad thing.

    . . . Isn't it?

But I recommend Berserk and Ubel Blatt again. If you can stomach Berserk's length. I'm not sure how gory or creative Ubel Blatt was, but I remember liking it when I read it.

And if you want to get into anime, I could make a few other recommendations, probably.

I dunno. I tend to think of gears as bad and fully needing grinding down INTO DUST...

And yeah, I've noticed the general patheticness of tropers... but it seems somewhat overshadowed by their stupidity. Half the stuff in the "Fridge Brilliance" section I'd mark with a Captain Obvious image macro if I could.

Ah, yeah. "Franken Fran is scawwy!" coming from the average troper admittedly holds little weight.

I think the first time it really hit home was when i saw someone claiming that glowing people in Team Fortress 2 are scary. Exciting and adrenaline pumping when you're immersed and they're bearing down on you? Maybe. Scary? Not so much.
  • Let's face it, the only thing people notice about tropers isn't how pathetic they are or their stupidity, it's the fact that most of them are creepy, anime-obsessed borderline rapists.
  • Aha. Hahahahaha. Hahahahahahaha. Ahahahahahahaaa!

    HAHAHAH! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAAAAHAAAAA! HAHAHAHAAAA!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA -cough- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
  • Creepy borderline rapists I can put up with.  Teh stupids... not so much.
That said, there was that comment I made on YouTube a few days ago... I'd seen some douchebag making a really disgustingly perverse comment about Fuko and I had a brief uncharacteristic feminist rant....

  • In their defense, Fuuko is sexy.
  • a little muffled
I read the title as "Recommend any good ninjas?"

No, no, I mostly notice the stupidity. Though the creepiness is still noticeable.
  • @DYRE: Naw, this is more like it:

  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
    Violence.

Maybe Elfen Lied would be to your liking. It has a rather cutesy style (for the girls at least), but otherwise it's exactly like Gantz. As in, it has loads of loads of violence and nothing else.

"And for the record, I've already read Elfen Lied <3 "
  • You can change. You can.
    I'd recommend...Angel Cop.

  • PONY MANGA

It's translated from a German comic in some magazine Hasbro distributed. If you're not familiar with the series, the characters and art are amusingly... off...
  • dat ponystool
  • There's a page where they're playing soccer as though they were bipeds. It's kind of odd.
