How people want all video games to have a sequel

Even when the story is completely self contained, or there's no way to improve on the first game's gameplay, or the development team has long since split up. And it's never just one sequel. The developers could make 10 sequels and people would be begging for the 11th. It reeks of a desperate plea to relive the memories of playing the original game for the first time.

  • I like turtles.
    ...and what's wrong with that?

As long as the sequel isn't bad or somehow brings down the quality of its predecessor(s) (which, admittedly, becomes a taller and taller order with every successive installment), and as long as there are good ideas to be put into it (as opposed to just making a sequel solely because of fan demand), I say bring it on.

Yes, that's kind of the issue. There's no such thing as leaving things on a high note in the gaming industry.
  • Oh hai, Chrono Trigger fandom.
  • Is this about Portal?

    TimeSplitters and Banjo Kazooie.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
I so totally want sequels to Big Rigs and Superman 64.
  • I totally want a KI sequel, but in my defense, I already know that such a sequel would most likely be shit.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Disgaea did it pretty well, since everyone lives forever and there is no plot.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I WANT A SEQUEL TO WILY AND LIGHT'S ROCKMAN BOARD GAME.
  • The Sonic Series Wiki Curator of TvTropes
You know what? I want a Sonic Unleashed Tw-oh wait, nevermind.
  • I prefer prequels most of the time, unless there's nothing in the game that actually really gives you much information for one.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Some games just work better without a sequel. For example, Chrono Trigger

On the other hand, I can't help but be glad Gargoyle's Quest was a trilogy.
  • @Bob:  ...Killer Instinct already had a sequel though...   Unless you mean you want another.
  • Yeah. Sorry, I suck at wording things. :<

I never even started thinking about it until Rare began hinting at a KI3, and now it's all I ever think about (you know, when I'm not thinking about Mortal Kombat or porn or weed or boobs or dicks or whatever shows are on at whatever given moment or... well, you get the idea).
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    I want a Killer7 2. That would be fun.
  • Morgan Freeman is God

Except Chrono Trigger had unresolved plot points, like what happened to Schala and what exactly the "Entity" was.

    >TimeSplitters and Banjo Kazooie.

I havn't played Time Splitters, but I do know that Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts practically promised that there'd be a non-vehicle sequel sometime in the future. Hopefully the rumors of Microsoft and Nintendo negotiating a Banjo 3DS game are true.
  • Those were answered in Chrono Cross, shut up and live with your mediocre sequel.

The largest remnant of the 90s Rare is Crytek UK, collect-a-thon platformers are dead (which Nuts & Bolts seemed a bit bitter about), and Microsoft will give up Rare's IPs when it's pried out their cold, shareholder-controlled dead hands.
  • collect-a-thon platformers are dead

    Thank God for that, huh?

The last major one in my mind is Psychonauts, and that came out half a decade ago.

Also it's getting a sequel, maybe.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
But most of my favourite games as a kid were in that genre...

I know when I want a sequel to a game, it's primarily because I enjoy the style of game play, but want new environments to explore and new challenges.

(I also like seeing more of the characters and continuations of the plot, if there was one.)
  • ^^ Everything Tim Schafer has ever made is getting a sequel...maybe.
  • I don't want a Grim Fandango sequel! It's too good as it is!
  • Morgan Freeman is God
@DYRE: Oh no you didn't just diss 3D platformers.

I like them in moderation. Couldn't be bothered to retort him, though.

EDIT: Okami might count as a recent one! Any others?

Oh you Americans, needing to have all the answers. How do you make it through life with such a glaring flaw?

Also, calling those "unanswered questions" is a bit of a stretch. I'm not saying they've been answered--I'm saying I don't see what the question is.

Exactly! It's why we killed Osama bin Laden. We needed to know if he was dead or not.

Since people die when they are killed.

I'm sorry, I had to say it.

    Oh, and:

  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    People die when they're killed!

If you die in Mobius, you die in real life!
