  I don't know if it is a synonym for that, but certainly I meant life-sized. Well, at least I remember it was given as life-sized. The figure was kinda short, I assumed it's a joke at Elvis's expense. The episode was about Garfield listing things he hates, the figure was representing build-it-yourself kits.

  Iron Monger is a guy wearing a suit of armor, not a robot. Although the Monger armor does look more robot-like than a lot of other Iron Man-related designs.

  
  

  I don't have the toy with me right now, but this review says it's like, seven and three quarter inches. Somehow, I'm actually glad I got it by assembling the bonus pieces from six other toys instead of just buying Iron Monger on his own.

  Another 5th day of the month, another monthly anniversary of Hugo Chávez' death (a terrible, authoritarian Venezuelan expresident who died ages ago on 5/3/13 (or maybe 30/12/12), sorry for the history lesson). Officialists commemorate it because that personality cult is the only reason their bases have not to hate them, in turn oppositors commemorate it because ¡No volverá!

  
  

  I guess that makes it a good time for another update:

  
  

  * The indoctrination of younglings begins. Millions of books distorting history have been distributed to schools, as well as miscellaneous, politically oriented paraphernalia.

  
  

  * There's now a 0-800-SABOTAGE line to denounce whatever business is "sabotaging" (disregards price controls, hoards, etc). Call now!

  
  

  * Related to the above, Nicolasno Maburro threatened to sic the prosecutor on media reporting on scarcity, since it's "economic war propaganda".

  
  

  * The idea that Nico was born in Cúcuta, Colombia has been gaining strength (no birth certificate shown or found on registries, inconsistent birthplace, other stuff), to the point MUD heads and parliamentists have requested his certificate, too. I want to point out that just because something sounds a lot like a conspiracy theory doesn't mean it's false. I won't believe it until there's solid evidence, but clarification on his part would be nice. Regardless, his mother is Colombian, disallowing him from running for president on the basis of double nationality (although the ministry of judical power probably wouldn't mind him renouncing it). The more layers of illegitimacy, the better  (so far: interin presidency, candidacy as unelected president, electoral fraud, nationality, miscellaneous).

  
  

  * A truck driver carrying a load of meat suffered a traffic accident and as the driver lied there in agony, a horde of New Socialist Men began to loot it, disregarding the driver and even piling up around him, eventually dying, and bikers taking advantage of the traffic block to mug nearby drivers, all while the police and the Bolivarian National Guard failed to keep the situation in control. Not exactly a trascendental or isolated event but this one in particular is telling of how our society has decayed, and how couldn't it, after years of rampant impunity, generalized corruption, neglecting education, fomenting a lumpen, and overall being under the construction of socalism, the least social of ideologies. Ahh, whatever, that's going to take very long to fix when all this ends but I'm still optimistic.

  
  

  * Protests seem to be sparking up now. Teachers, medics, viality, but in particular there's this one at the reddy red Orinoco Siderurgics (Sidor) over some contracts that have had IIRC 5 years overdue, a conflict that's been going on for years now and involves other nearby industries, too. The city was then militarized, with APCs and shit. So much for a "worker president".

  
  

  * Exgovernor Rafael Isea apparently is currently in Washington revealing juicy information to the DEA about narcotrafficking within the National Bolivarian Armed Forces.

  
  

  * Perhaps related to the above, over 1300 kg of cocaine was found on luggage ("narcoluggage") on a commercial flight going from Crackass to Paris, that is, it had to travel a long way through the country and airport security and get through with the complicity of high ranking members of the Bolivarian National Guard.

  
  

  * Nico went to China looking for another loan, something they've been having trouble getting for a number of reasons. Apparently whatever he got, he didn't get it in liquid form and as such won't be used for electoral purposes, and settles debate on whether the state has moolah in parafiscal funds and confirming that we are, in fact, broke.

  
  

  * Nico suspiciously cut short his above tour through China, did not go to the UN assembly thing because magnicide, was substituted by the chancellor (this is his anti-imperialist face), and cancelled a journey to Bolivia because flu.

  
  

  * Presumably to distract from all the stuff going on, Inmaduro accused a bunch of US diplomats of conspiring to sabotage the electrical system and had them kicked out.

  
  

  * All in all, there's this stench of regime implosion in the environment. With the above stuff and miscellaneous, strong rumors and hints there's this aura of governmental desperation, that things can't keep on like this and that it's a life-or-death thing that our issues look like they aren't their fault but they'll have it in control soon enough, while at the same time the distinct factions within the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV, the government's party) look disarticulate, when not in outright conflict, and even sabre-rattling (the military just got another pay raise and some cars, I wonder what the above protestors think). There's been lots of talk on this side of the street about a national pact thing, necessary to fix this shit up, per what the smart guy I mentioned earlier said. Hopefully the pragmatic side of the PSUV (yes, they exist) will end up taking the reins before things get even uglier than they already are. *crosses fingers*

  If that's disappointing news, remember that they wanted to embalm him like Lenin (they didn't because too much time had passed, see alternate death date above), and that a month or so ago they had a reunion at the Mountain Quarters (his resting place, hereafter referred to as Hall of Doom) using his coffin as table.

It airs a year late, which means somehow South Africans (yes including me) are perfectly content to watch old episodes of the hammiest reality show every single day of the week.

  • Ice cream is usually associated with women, I know, but the Ola brand Magnum was so super popular here that it's weird that it's still called that and has ads that are comparable to like... Activia or Special K (without the healthy bits obviously) commercials.
