Nintendo is losing a ton of money on the 3DS apparently

    Cue-bey
    The earlier releases did, IIRC.
  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
    The one I have does.

-still has a DS phat; never saw a reason to upgrade before the 3DS-

I loved how the DS and DS Lite had the GBA slot. Very smart move by Nintendo, I admit. Backwards compatiblity is always smart.

Maybe Nintendo just got lucky with the DS. Maybe the 3DS just won't get the same avalanche of great games the DS got.
  • I had a DSLite. Never needed to upgrade it.

^Same here. Oh DSi, big freaky deal? It's a smart phone without the phone!

PhatDS is my favorite. I have dropped it 23 times and it hasn't broken. The DS Lite was put in my pocket once, and it somehow quit working forever. This was not the case with my PhatDS.

Actually the I don't think they should have been so anxious about the PSV (assuming they were) since the PSV doesn't have any good games yet either.

    > -hinge that I wouldn't trust to keep my dishwasher closed

But it's not supposed to be water-tight anyway!
  • They're somethin' else.
    Y'know, I have a solution to Nintendo's lack of 3rd party support:

MAKE SOME 1ST PARTY GAMES, DAMMIT.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Because, as we all know, Nintendo never makes any good 1st party games.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
They are always late to their own parties though. They stopped having awesome launch titles with the Cube. Weegee's Mansion anyone? Then it takes a long fucking time for them to release the signature Mario platformer for that system. Hell, I'm surprised Galaxy even had a sequel (or $50 expansion pack) Sunshine and 64 never had sequels. Lazy much, Nintendo?
  • ^^^ The are. There's a new Galaxy-like Mario game as well as Luigi's Mansion 2. But they're not coming out for months.
  • Mr. The Edge goes to Washington
    ^No surprise there.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
As I understand it, the problem is that they let a leak bully them into releasing a few months earlier than planned.

"You buy your one 3DS game, and I will buy 40 games on my phone, and let's see who has more fun at the end..."

    Even better:

"You buy your 250$ game system, and I will buy 500 games, and let's see who has more fun at the end."

Answer: the one with the system that's getting Devil Survivor: Overclocked.

Seriously, though, my iPhone games are mostly things to do when I'm bored out of my mind and have nothing else to do. DS and 3DS games are games I play willingly.
  • Only somewhat here
I'm one of the people who picked up the 3DS on release, and for the most part, I'm happy with it. I'm just not happy about MML3 getting cancelled, but that's more Capcom's fault than Nintendo's.

Can your phone run Metroid Prime 3: Corruption?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Eh, I'd be more annoyed about the MML3 cancellation if the first two games in the series hadn't flopped. Though admittedly, Capcom could've just said that instead of blaming the fans.
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
How successful were the first two games?
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

This.  iPhone games almost never hold my attention for very long.

^^Combined, around 120k copies sold. I'm actually pretty impressed they had the balls to even consider continuing after that.

Hunh.  Yeah, I kinda figured that they didn't do well, being rather...weird, for Mega Man games.

I think that someone at Capcom, quite possibly series director/creator Inafking (Keiji Inafune), really likes the Legends subseries despite the lukewarm reception from fans.

    @Snowbull: Expanding:
-The bottom screen scratches the top screen due to design issues.
-Built around a gimmick which is hard to sell: 3D which only works if you're staring at it in exactly the right way, eats battery life, and, if you're like me, causes you eyestrain in under a minute.
-Due to the constant upgrades of the DS, it's often seen as just another DS upgrade by those who don't follow gaming news.
-Further, many people feel it's just going to get an updated release soon, anyway, so they can't justify buying it now.
-Region locked, for absolutely no reason.
-Nintendo's been caught up in quite a few PR disasters which is reducing the support of their products.
    -Button layout is shit.

@Glenn: Inafune was the one who pushed the project. And then he quit, outright stating that he hated his job.
  • You forgot one.

In my experience, all it's done is put dirt on. Have you tried to wipe it off?
  • edited 2011-08-03 15:25:26
It puts dirt on it, yes. And occasionally it will permanently scratch it. They made those rubber nubs too short, so the edges of the bottom screen actually contact the top screen, which shouldn't be happening.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Huh... I haven't had any scratches on mine. But yeah, I won't argue that it's not bad design.

    No rainbow star
^^ And that is why I always wait until the new generation of Pokemon (if exclusive to the console) to get the new console. Because Pokemon usually gets released late in a consoles life cycle, when improvements are done

...Although I really should find a DS to replace my THIRD DS Lite (Dammit these things break too easily. Bet a normal DS still has damn working shoulder buttons and a god damn working hinge!)
