    It's not because of mobile games. It's because Nintendo pretty horribly botched its release and provided no real reason for consumers to actually buy the bloody thing. They kind of got what was coming.

    I've said it before, but I don't know where. Nintendo needed to give this another year or two of development. If there is like a Nintendo 3DS Lite or whatever, I'm sure that'll be awesome. But yeah, snowbull, I'm not about to go buy one either.

    At this point in its lifespan, the DS wasn't doing much better. Nintendo handhelds get slow starts, apparently.

    I think the price slash is going to help a lot (they'll still be making a profit on each unit sold, from what I hear about the manufacturing cost), but what'll really help is getting some more games on it, which will happen automatically in time.

    PROTIP: Don't rely on Ubisoft/Gameloft, Namco and EA to make your launch
    titles because they'll just dust off whatever stale franchises they can
    find and spend a week and some unpaid intern on porting them.

    I saw one of these things in display in a store. Twice. The first time it seemed to have some sort of productivity program in it. For that, the 3D effect looked nice and I didn't have any of the problems Yahtzee had.

    Then just yesterday that had been replaced with a new Dead or Alive game, and... well, the 3D looked horrible. Seriously, the graphics were muddy and unclear, and the "3D effects" only made the picture look slightly distorted. When I turned it off, the game looked all right.

    So we've got the same problem the Wii had: its a stupid gimmick that you know nine-tenths of the manufacturers aren't going to make proper use of and will wind up being just a stupid needless forgotten thing in a few years.

    Here's an idea, Nintendo: Why not just keep supporting the systems you've already got and which all still have life in them, instead of pushing a new gimmick on us every couple of years?

    The Gameboy Advance, meanwhile, was released in 2001. That means the DS lasted more than twice as long as its predecessor.

    And wrongfully so. Honestly, I'd be perfectly happy if they had scrapped the DS and kept supporting the Advance.

    But then, the Advance has so many games I've never played that I'd probably be overlooking any new releases this year anyway (I still need to pick up the Castlevania trilogy, goddammit!)

    I have more GBA games than DS games, but I'd say I have more good DS games than good GBA games.
