Yeah, I wasn't ever actually under the impression that the thread was serious, and then it suddenly had its own forum...
  • Poot dispenser here
Well, from what I can tell, you're just expected to act intelligently. I mean, we're discussing stuff like what our first Anime was, what Video Games we liked, what Music we listen to, real-life stuff like what we like to drink and two threads so far about nostalgia.
  • Sounds like TVTropes has really been going down the shitter lately. Thank god I don't visit anymore, otherwise this would probably piss me off.
  • ITT bitching about the fact that the IJBM was destroyed
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
    @ Bob

    The wiki or the forums?
  • ^The forums.

^^Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I really didn't notice anyone bitching about IJBM's deletion.
  • edited 2011-03-16 10:21:39
Implied bitching really. "We can have a subforum for being old and elitist, but we can't have a subforum for bitching about shit?" That sort of thing.

To be honest, I'm not sure how sincere I'm being.
  • Ah. Okay. I understand, I don't think that was the intent.
  • They're somethin' else.
    -looks at new subforum-

    What.

    In.

    The FUCK.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^^Honestly, I agree with the decision to delete IJBM, given the problems it was causing, but I'm not a fan of the new subforum at all.

    Gelzo:

Liking things aimed at children doesn't make one immature, but it's a sign that one could be immature.

  • *raises single eyebrow*
  • Now you know how to get subforums for your favourite threads.

C.S.Lewis was saying was that there's 3 kinds of people. The least mature, who like things aimed at children because they're a child themselves, the slightly less immature, who desperately try not like those things, and the mature people, who just don't give a fuck either way. People who bring up that quote want people to believe they're in category 3, but if you don't show a single shred of maturity elsewhere, you're probably in category 1.

^ Now that we have a precedent for spinning off threads that clog Yack Fest, we could make a subforum for all the megathreads, and then Yack Fest would become the new IJBM (well, more than it is now).

  • The social aspect of maturity to me primarily means being wise and responsible. I don't see how that relates to taste in entertainment.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^^I feel like it's the "showing a single shred of maturity elsewhere" bit that actually matters there.
  • They're somethin' else.
    He who fights monsters, anyone?
  • Now you know how to get subforums for your favourite threads.

Getting it to be the favourite thread of the three most "powerful" people in the forum, and at least two of those immediately under them in the totem pole seems like a rather inefficient way of getting your own subforum. You're better off asking FE for one, I mean, it's not like he raised many objections to the creation of AatAFoVS, TV Tropes the TV Show, IJAM, Visual Novels, Visual Arts, Live Performance, the Roleplaying subforum and the Duck Soup subforum... hell, Janitor even gave SJ his own subforum for a RP that never took off.

^ I was (jokingly) suggesting bloating Yack Fest with spinoff threads, but that works, too.
  • Wait, that actually happened? That seems rather silly.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yep. That's what happened. A few spinoff threads got started, so a new subforum was made.
  • I think a subforum for Fetishes would be more popular.
  • It was proposed at one point, but too many votes against it.
  • edited 2011-03-16 15:26:55
    Edit: Unseen ninja.
  • Even if it got enough votes, would it actually be made? Wouldn't it conflict with that one rule?
  • edited 2011-03-16 15:31:35
Well, when it was proposed, the "one sex thread" rule was not yet in place. Said rule was only implemented as a result of the now-infamous (among AU and I, at least) Overindulgent Orgy October, when we filled IJBM with sex threads.

There's not even a chance of a fetishes subforum being made today, though, rule or not, because Google ads are on the forums again and Google's terms of serivce doesn't like that kind of thing.
  • "Overindulgent Orgy October"

Sounds like a "Stygian Saturday", man, I'm taking this opportunity to show off how long I've been on the forums, I'm so cool.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
^ The comparison was made at the time, more than once.

At least once by me. >_>

*sad that Stygian Saturday is not an actual holiday*
  • *sad about not knowing what Stygian Saturday is and not getting any help from Google*
  • We should totally have Stygian Saturday here. We'll set a date and forget about it 2 weeks in.
