It looks pretty useless. I'll try to keep an open mind about it, but I don't see why it was necessary.

  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Because the Crotchety old Bitches thread was getting spinoffs and nobody wanted them to clog up Yack Fest.
  • It kind of bothers me that so many teenagers post there anyway, but it's kind of a dumb and hard to enforce division anyway.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
I still have no idea how old "old" is.
  • Knowing TvTropes, "old" is above 20 years old.
  • Which means I'm in the target demographic, yet have no interest in it.
  • Silence is golden.
I take the explanation for its existence as a pretty blatant admission that the mods plainly don't give a shit about the quality of the media forums (if they ever gave a shit) and would rather stay in their little circlejerk rather than try and improve meaningfully the existing boards.

    I don't like it.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
The mods show up on the media subfora when people holler. People just don't holler as much as they really could there.

Because you never know what you might see.
I don't like it either.  I found the COB thread quite intimidating enough as it was, and I think there's a certain snobbishness and a certain defeatism about writing off the entire rest of the forum as "silly" (which will surely be a self-fulfilling prophecy).

In defence of teenage COBs, the definition of "COB" is apparently "17 years old, or willing to act like it", so it is a rather generous application of the word "old".
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Actually looking at the topics again (I hadn't since last night), a lot of them actually do seem to be "topics we have elsewhere or even have entire subfora for, but for us superior people," which kind of does disgust me.
  • "Disgust" is a pretty strong word.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Yeah, but nevertheless, people acting superior is one of the few things that actually pisses me off.
  • I think it's appropriate. Much better than the often used "hate" or "disgust" many other use much to often to appear more sophisticated or mature to others oh my god this is self-fulfilling
  • It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

(Though I have been posting in OFH a little, 'cause, hey, it's there)
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I like it. Keeps the kiddy bullshit away.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
HEY LET'S REMOVE IJBM AND PUT AN UNNECESSARY FORUM WITH TOPICS WE ALREADY HAVE BUT WE CAN DISCUSS WITHOUT (EW) NEWFAGS THAT DARE TO TRYING TO ENTER OUR SMALL CLIQUE
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
Why don't we accuse that place of being an IJBM-clone for the mods?
  • Because it isn't.
  • We'll see about that.
  • The Sonic Series Wiki Curator of TvTropes
Huh, I'm actually kinda glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't see the point of having this subforum. I mean, it's like, I kinda want to post in it at least once, but its whole atmosphere just makes me want to avoid it as much as possible.

See, I don't even mind the idea of having a subforum where shitposting and silliness are kept to a minimum--on the contrary, if it keeps the haters out of Yack Fest, all the better--but I don't see why it's necessary to insult those who enjoy such nonsense by outright calling us children.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    The smugness is great.
  • I see this C.S. Lewis quote when the topic of the pony fad is addressed, but I guess it could apply here. I'm not saying it is entirely flush with what I think or is an entirely accurate representation of what is going on, but it should still be worth posting. Emphasis not mine, but Wikiquote's.

"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
    • It's the "crotchety" part that gets to me. I can never stand that whole defeatist thing.
    • You know, the 90's Nostalgia Thread isn't bad.
    • So this is Yack Fest without shitposting and drama?

Don't we have OTC for that?
    • The idea is that derails would be welcome, but not those of the inane variety.
    • Then there's no fun!

    • And here I thought the "Crotchety Old Bitches" thread was a shitpost thread. You mean it's an antishitpost thread? Maybe it's a parody of a shitpost thread, which ends up looking like a shitpost thread. Really, though, I read that thread and all I see is shitpost.
    • Because you never know what you might see.
I don't think I fully understand that thread.
    • I think I have a foggy memory of when it was first created, I wondered what the crap it was supposed to be about.
