TVTropes shows post times to the second, so if two people posted at the exact same second, Anonymous User would post "(theremins)". Then I started doing it, and now Bobby and Tzetze do it, and it's like a mini-meme.

Theremins are ridiculously hard to use properly. The lack of any way to sight where the notes are and being forced to have your hand hover in mid air the entire time contribute to that. In addition, there are other ways to get the same effects that are easier. Theremins are kind of a novelty nowadays. (I did try one once. It was fun, but I don't think I'm willing to put in the effort to actually become good at it.)

Though, as arks explained, they're not used much for a number of reasons: among them that they are ridiculously inconvenient and not really necessary.

Trust me on this one. One guy I know went from "this show sucks, but I watch it since the music is good" for episodes 1-13 to "HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE BEST ANIME I HAVE EVER SEEN" after seeing episode 14. It is simply that good, and keeps getting better after that.
