The Hellfire song in Hunchback of Notre Dame

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
Not the song itself, but the fact that people tend to ignore the song that goes into it: Heaven's Light.

Nobody ever seems to speak about how these two songs are juxtaposed to each other, with the two singers singing about the exact same thing, and Quasimodo's ability to see God's beauty in Esmeralda as opposed to Frollo only being able to see the machinations of the devil. Nobody talks about what great characterization this is. It establishes that Quasimodo is still able to see the beauty and light of God in the world, while Frollo has strayed so far from the path of goodness that all he can see in any new emotions is evil.

Just bugs me, man.

  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
    It's 'cause Hellfire is better.

    Jus' sayin'.
  • "I've come to the conclusion that this is a VERY STUPID IDEA."
To add to the juxtaposition, the two songs are really part of one whole-- the end of "Heaven's Light" leads directly into "Hellfire". It's an excellently written piece in all. They do this well earlier in the movie ("In Here"/"Out There"), but it's a bit more poignant with these two.

MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
^^You say that as though they're not both fantastic songs.

Hellfire is just more dramatic and over-the-top.

They both lose a lot of their value when not looked at in conjunction. They're the same track on the soundtrack for a reason.

^Yeah, the Hunchback Soundtrack overall is really one of Disney's best I think.
  • $80+ per session
Can't wait to see Notre Dame in all its glory in Dream Drop Distance.
  • I can't see Hellfire of Heaven's Light without thinking of Gaston and Frollo Get a Life.

"Holy shit, my hair is on FIRE"

I haven't actually seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
Hunchback is probably my favorite animated Disney movie.

Haven't seen Beauty and the Beast either.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    You should remedy that.
  • I should.

    I won't.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
I haven't actually seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    I've seen it...probably...when I was tiny.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
And people wonder why I drink...

I always assumed it had something to do with a lack of Yuno.

Of course that doesn't make chronological sense since I knew you drunk before I first saw that god-fuckingly scary picture.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
I was frustrated with the lack of Yuno in my life long before I knew Yuno existed. =/
  • I'm just glad there's no Yuno in my life.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
    But she's such a sweetheart! <3
  • They're somethin' else.
    <3<3<3
  • Yeah I don't like her.
  • So....who is Yuno, besides being the girl is those two guys' avatars?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    ^Yandere chick from Mirai Nikki.
  • MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY PAYROLL!
One of the most beautiful creatures to walk the earth~

More seriously, she's the female lead of Mirai Nikki, and she's notable for being a Yandere, and an exceedingly well characterized one.
  • She's the one who stares in through the mail slot, right?
  • You can change. You can.
    Yup.

    I should.

    I won't.

    Why?

I'm honestly curious. It seems like not watching Taxi Driver at this point, really.

Or Terminator 2, to go for a less artistic example, i guess.
  • -shrug-

I haven't actually seen Terminator 2 from start to finish either.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
I'm actually downloading Hunchback right now.
  • $80+ per session
The Lion King, Mulan, and probably Hercules, are better.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
Also, The Sword In The Stone.

I like Hercules but it's such a jumbled mess that I couldn't call it a good movie. The cast is really charismatic though.

Mulan and The Lion King... I can see how people would find them better. I just disagree with them.

^That has barely any sword fighting in it.
  • Man I loooooooooooooved Hercules when I was a kid. Still love it today.
  • One foot in front of the other, every day.
It also ensured that Disney used up their Arthurian mythology card, meaning that they would never delve into the latter stages of the legend.

    -sigh-
