Dark Souls: Siegfried stops writing a journal like some bitchy teenager, the game is discussed.

Ooh, and good timing, too, because I just got a Winged Spear.
He sells the components needed to upgrade, as well as doing the actual upgrading, so you should be able to get it up to +5 before the fight.
Holy shit, that helped so much. I'm two-shotting Balder Knights now.
Yep.
Also, with the right embers, you can increase to +10, then +15.
Dunno if I foud those yet. Also, I'm only at +4 because I lack enough shards for the next upgrade and the Souls to buy more.
The Gargoyle fight was going much better . . . until I somersaulted off the edge and died.
You haven't. You won't for some time.
Aaah, Christ, I almost had one. But nooooo, they couldn't let me down another flask. >:[
Remember, summoning is always an option.
Though if you want to go solo for the challenge, my suggestion would be to get that extra +1 and focus on one gargoyle.
Nah, got it this time. And I got the Gargoyle Tail Axe for attacking it right after a sideroll.
EDIT: 14980 souls . . .
Nice.
The Gargoyle Tail Axe isn't very useful, but it's pretty neat just as a reward.
So, like, is there anything left to do in that general area? I mean, I left the Black Knight in the tower there, and I think I could probably pull that off at this point, but there's also the Hellkite, and I am damn sure not going to try that one yet.
I have never legitimately defeated the Hellkite. And I find the bulk of the game fairly easy.
Anyway, as for stuff to do...have you killed Lautrec yet? If so, go through the locked door that was before the Hellkite bridge. You should have the key.
Nope. Buuut, I haven't freed him, either. I guess I could try killing him now. But first, I'mma see what else there is to upgrade.
Is it worth upgrading armor, at this point?
He goes to Firelink Shrine anyway if you don't free him before killing the Gargoyles. The only difference is that you don't get your reward.
Awwww. Well, I suppose I have little choice, then. Does that mean he's already killed the dude attending the bonfire?
No. And the Firekeeper isn't the dude, she's the girl behind the bars.
He kills the Firekeeper when you enter the Depths. So go back to Firelink, upgrade your flask and kill him, then go to the locked door before the Hellkite bridge and proceed from there.
Well, I already got the upgrade. There was just that +1, right?
For the moment, yes. When you get another Firekeeper's Soul, you can go back.
But either way, you need to go there and kill Lautrec.
. . . Well, that was easy. (He fell off the stairs trying to get at me)
Though with the way the fight was going anyway, it seemed pretty easy.
Yeah, that happens sometimes. If he actually fights you he's fairly tough.
Also, did he drop his ring?
I fought him down to halfway or so. It didn't seem so bad.
And no, he didn't, I don't think.
What always gets me is that he has the one weapon that attacks around your shield.
Though I think I usually fight him before the Gargoyles.
If he didn't drop his ring you might find it in the spot where he was sitting. It's the third or fourth best ring in the game.
I didn't stay in the area much longer, so I'll go back.
EDIT: Nope, it's nowhere around. I guess it went with his corpse.
I didn't really notice that. He just attacked a lot and couldn't do much about my spear.
Only with one of its attacks.
And if you quit the game and reload, his stuff will be back where he was sitting.
Thanks, DYRE!
Ah, that's what does it.
The AI in this game hates me. If there's one attack that works on me, it will spam it.
And it should be noted that the quit+reload thing works for any other NPC's drops too (if they fell off a ledge or something, obviously), which is particularly useful for getting the best ring in the game.
...?
All the good rings I can think of (aside from Lautrec's) aren't drops. Except Havel's ring, and there isn't a ledge there.
